Why yes, they are safe! and light! (if all the saftey stuff was taken out it'd probably be 2400lbs from the factory...)

Good stuff. Definitely a solid car. People always ask me if it is safe.

After seeing Randy's mini i'm thinking this could be one of the cars that eventually replaced my '96 honda accord DD :D. How much does one of this run for if it's new or used (< 2yrs)?

you can pick a decent one up, 2005 with the new gearbox, for 15,000... prob 30-40,000 miles

Keep in mind that options vary widely and there are some Model Year distinctions that you might want to look into. Certain options are hard to find. I specifically wanted certain items, for example, the Sport Chrono Pack and Limited Slip Differential, as well as a hard top. MINI's tend to be custom ordered, so you will want to find an owner that had similar intent and taste as you. There are a dizzying array of available options.
Sport Chrono puts the speedo in a more usable and friendly place, and also adds a bunch of additional useful gauges in the center dash.
I also wanted a 2006 specifically.

NICE! you have the sport chrono? I wish I had limited slip,... I think ima get the OBX LSD as its only 300$... hahaha... I wish I would have gotten the sport chrono but I really liked the NAVI on mine and it shows GPS avg speed, and 2 fuel consumption records in MPG...
It helps save gas...lol... Once from my house in Monterey park to RPI and back to my house, I kept an average of 48mpg... YES 48!!!! Hahahaha, I was really trying had to save gas, and I even stopped in traffic on the fwy, twice! But dont expect such results all the time, I usually can keep 30+MPG driving normal at 70-75mph

Yeah, those Sports chronos are nice. Just amazing the different arrays of options and year specific distinctions varies. It's hard to find two Mini's alike.:thumbsup2:

Yeah, it's nuts how many options there are.
Funny thing is, there is actually a twin sister of my MINI, since the father and son ordered exactly the same spec, the only difference is the twin has a black roof and I have a dark silver roof (to match body).
I really like having the Sport Chrono since I couldn't get used to looking into the center console for speedo, although I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
