Guys i have been contemplating on doing a preventive maintenance on LoLa and i was wondering if anyone of you have the Dinan Mono balls or the X5 bushings...Running 20's wheels really put some stress on the bushings...

Dinan monoballs ive heard are rally good but they could make weird noises and need to be lubricated

Damn i didnt know about the noise:( is it bad and how often do they need to be lubricated?Dinan monoballs ive heard are rally good but they could make weird noises and need to be lubricated

I will ask chris at Bms to see exactly what to do .... but I think when it starts making noises then you need to lubricate

I heard that they are pretty ill

According to Dan (DRM) the Dinan monoballs make no noise because they are Teflon lined. I can't vouch for this first-hand yet, but I'm considering getting a set if my X5 bushings ever wear out. The X5 bushings have held up to several track days and hard street driving with no problems yet.

I'm thinking of going with the X5 bushings and iirc there you psoted a few years back on how to install them properly...According to Dan (DRM) the Dinan monoballs make no noise because they are Teflon lined. I can't vouch for this first-hand yet, but I'm considering getting a set if my X5 bushings ever wear out. I'm sure you can..

Vines thrust arms as an alternative (assuming they solved their shipping issues)...I have had a very good experience with them. One set was still fine (no cracks or tears) after 35k miles. I didn't need to but yanked them because I had a spare set that I wanted to use while I was renewing/refreshing the both the front and rear suspensions.

IMHO these are a better solution as you get new arms and a heavy-duty bushing that is firmer and lasts longer than the X5 bushing, not to mention no compromises re. the pressing out/in of a new bushing. Just make sure the Vines arms have the orange insert.

Hmmm, I searched for the Vines arms on eBay and couldn't find them...the above link may or may not be the same item...the orange insert in the bushing is key to the uprated item.

Laidback, what did you decide on.

I went ahead and bought X5 based on what Palantirion said on the other board.

Alas I have no idea what the difference is (compared to stock) as the MRS is still at DR.90210 for some upgrades.

I also went and ordered the X5 bushings as my alignment guy told me the monoballs squeek in time:(...you should have pm about the wifey's upgrade the GF works for the top M.D in regards to that:D or our very own Plastique999 is one of the go to guys here in SoCal:)

I have monoballs and love them..Can't really see how they'll squeek over time there in a teflon socket.

well today replaced a bunch of stuff at BMS today

My thrust arm bushings were shot and my shock tower mounts were shot so had em replaeced today I went stock for the thrust arms this is my last replacement with these arms next time replacing the arms and adding the Dinan monoballs

The ride is brand new... Ive been very carefull recently I knew something was wrong with my ride for a while and even had those morons at sterling bmw fix it they charged me $2000 and didnt even fix the broblem

I had chris at BMS hear the "crackle" and a a day in the shop... Wala handling like im on rails and not feeling like im in a broken race car LOL

Can you give us more feedback on them since you had them for that many miles, compared with the stock bushings? I am really curious and would like to jump on this mod in the future...5K or so of hard driving..

Well Chris, It feels tighter up front under hard braking with a BBK , It does give you somewhat of a direct feel under harsh/ rough roads. The rubber dampens it better but I'd prefer the Monoballs over the rubber anytime.

i've got about 35k miles on x5 bushings, been pretty pleased. THe ball joint side of the thrust arm eventually wears out too, so next time, i'm getting new arms and putting the dinan monoballs in. OE bushings lasted unitl 45k, second set only lasted another 25k (but lots of track days, much of it on R compound rubber), x5 bushing since, now near 110k.

Got LoLa checked out as i was having some weird vibrations under when braking below 30 mph, found her bushings are wearing out, just after 10k miles:(

just an update:

I brought the car in at Southbay Autohaus and Mark replaced the Bushings (front) to the X5 bushings and I was  it was well worth it!!!!:excited: LoLa feels alot tighter and can make turns relatively easy at increase speeds without worrying about the vibrations...While there Qais and Mark found out the CPS are bad on Bank 1 hence my feeling of lost of power was (CPS) the cuplrit, today i gave her a good 15 miles stretch and WOW! power is crazy!!! I would like to thank Qais and Mark for giving me back LoLa in no time...:woohoo:

For those thinking of doing the X5 bushings? I highly recommend it:goldcup:

What are peoples thoughts on Powerflex bushings for an M5. I've ran them on a few of my M3's (Both sedan and coupe) and they worked out great. Makes the suspension much tighter and handle even better.

As far as the E39's the Powerflex bushings are too harsh/stiff and make alot of noise ... but i love it when i had my e36 M3:)

They are pretty stiff with my M3. I could only imagine how they are on an M5. Looks like the X5 bushings are the way to go!

i have the monoball and i have no "noises" i do lube the goods every so often though.

id avoid the x5 bushings if i have enough money for monoball. you will love it, its MUCH more noticeable than the x5.
