Hi
The latest style 'directions' by the German brands is more angular and with certain elements which look like they 'should' work, but don't quite manage to pull it off. BMW's 1 series looks a bit awkward, as does the Merc C Class, the Audi Q5 looks a bit ungainly. Merc and Audi's use of strip style daylight running lights just looks like an afterthought.
However, some of the bigger cars look much better - 7 series, A8 and the Merc CLS here with their sizing advantage carry off some styling elements much better. I still think the original CLS looked better than this one, that front end with it's angular headlamps, section for DRLs, the prominent rectangle area with the 3 point emblem looks 'fussy' and the side wheel arches which look like they've come straight off a compact sized hatchback , nope.
It'll sell very well of course, and buyers in North America will lap it up regrdless, but I can't help thinking Mercedes in particular have gone the route of 'Christmas tree' adornment with angular and fussy styling...
F10/11 Sport please :)
Cheers, Dennis!
