alright guys as the christmas discounts will inevitably start rolling in in the next month or so, i was trying to budget for my upgrade list for my 98 M3. top of the list is still headlights, but after that will probably be exhaust if i can get a decent deal. i really like the dinan exhaust, but price is ridiculous. remus sounds really nice as well, but a couple of my friends have em so i may want to branch out.
what are you guys running with? i wanna go with a deep, throaty sound, but nothing ridiculously loud and ricey. also capability to bolt onto factory setup would be nice as well seeing as how im a somewhat broke college student :D

AA, and UUC are great exhausts. Best bet for most power is a single straight 3in exhaust (custom)

ah yes einsmann, how could i forget. its a bit too pricey for me tho like the dinan. UUC sounds really nice but i cant seem to find a decent sounding clip on youtube. anybody got a good place for sound reference?

I found a youtube of straight pipes on my car yesterday, loud! - definitely get-you-a-ticket dbs
As for finding youtube clips, I took to just typing in exactly what I'm looking for, ie. "e46 m3 eisenmann exhaust" and even if it's not the first clip that comes up, there's usually one in there.

does anybody have any experience with the "U-exhaust" by UUC? one of my friends said it was comparable to the remus systems.
and the stromung sounds reeeeally nice. that one might be in the lead right now. plus direct bolt on is a plus lol

Does anyone know if Joseph has the UUC exhaust? Couldve sworn i heard somewhere that he does and im sure he can chime in. If you want to hear go to any meet and he'll most likely be there haha, hasnt earned the "That guy who goes to every meet" nickname for nothing :lolhit:

I just installed straights on my after the secondary resonator just today, probably not what you are looking for (It's loud but could be louder) as I am trying to make this thing a track rat. AA (Active Autowerke) makes a descent exhaust. Like everyone else is saying UUC. Maybe just me but I had a HKS klasse on my 97 M3 and it sound really good. You basically got to listen to the one that grabs your attention the most.

sorry for the newbie question, but what exactly did you do to the stock? lol im still learning bit by bit about stuff like this, and the fact that its free/minimal cost definitely grabbed my attention.
as for after market, UUC is probably in the lead for me right now just barely above the stromung, but still cant decide between the "U-system" and the RSC36...major price difference :(

m3 gutted exhaust 2 - YouTube
E36 M3 Exhaust Gutted - YouTube
E36 Stock gutted muffler - YouTube
it sounds clean nice and deep driving around town, no drone at all in the cabin, really loud on wot (:
cut open the muffler and gut the insides and weld the can shut. then
debaffle your airbox too to make it more aggressive sounding.(FREE MOD TOO) :]
honestly, you can save those hundreds and buy wheels or coilovers.

I have the system-u and I love it. Nice and deep but mine is a bit raspy in the higher rpms since I have straight pipes before the muffler.

I like the sound of the Active Autowerke Race and headers. My friend used to have it on his e36 M3 before it got totaled and it sounded awesome.

UUC catback by itself isn't that loud.

I heard UUC is made to run off the stock headers. When you combine it with headers it basically loses it's sound and sounds like a muffler delete/ straight pipes.

Nah, mine doesn't sound anything close to when I ran a muffler delete. That was a bad setup. I used to have a B&B Tri-Flo catback and that definitely lost it's sound when I added headers and deleted the cats. Got really raspy throughout the whole RPM range where as the UUC is still deep until a bit of rasp comes above 4k.

*high five* just drove my car for the first time in three weeks and fell in love with my exhaust all over again!
K3VIN on here also has UUC system-u. Maybe he can chime in and post some vids.

had a blowout on one of the style5's so i put the spare ds1 on and the tire was flat for that also. lol finally got to drive it out of the driveway when i put the koseis on. now my power steering leak got bad and is most likely empty. won't stop whining so i'll top it off again in the morning until i finally replace the hoses and start brand new.

OP, what's your budget? prefer a new system or looking for used? Can't really go wrong with your choices right now.
System U might be easier to find used...although lately haven't really seen them online.
For the price of a new exhaust, AA gen III, Rogue DMS, and Stromung are around the same price range and all sound excellent, with AA being the tamest of the 3.
But if you are looking for a bassy sound, then System U all the way (just note that you'll have some drone while cruising.)

ah got ya.
just do the power steering hose fix/mod. instead of buying new oem hoses especially the one with the trombone. but it might be a good idea to replace the reservoir as the filter isn't replaceable.

how many hoses did you buy? there's only 2 coming from the reservoir with 1 having the trombone attached. But if you do the mod, you don't have to buy the hose with the trombone. here's the diy http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=16544034&postcount=1
did you already buy the reservoir as well?
armorrig
11-24-2011, 01:35 AM
but if you decide to buy the hose with the trombone, should be around 60 or maybe less.
edit: you do need that one hose(the one you already bought). The mod can only be done for the hose with the hard line.

Not sure what I bought. I purchased it in early April as it was supposed to be done for MFV but never happened. I'll look through it tomorrow, but I know I didn't buy the reservoir.
Thanks for the link. Everything in those last 3 pictures is soaked with power steering buildup.

ideally i want a used system to save $$$, but if i go new i dont want to spend more than $650. i heard a stromung last night and was impressed to say the least. for the price its between that and the system-U. i havent had any luck looking for used systems tho. what sites do you use? ive been using bimmerforums and occasionally craigslist, but no dice :(
