We've had the new M3 for a few weeks now and can say this is a blast to drive.

Lots may already know us in the iPod/electronics and carbon fibre over the years and that we have a spft spot for these vehicles. What you may not know is that we are very performance oriented also.

This buildup will expand as we have a select group of engineers working to make this one badass M3. Modifications will be ranging from all fields: Performance, Suspension, Exhaust, Electronics, Braking and Aesthetic with many parts originating from our own designs. Other vendors that are interested in participating in the buildup process are welcomed to contact me directly.

Vehicle will also serve as a test vehicle for new parts to be released from eas as well as other vendors, subscribing to this thread will allow you to be a part of the process.

Feedback, recommendations or questions are welcomed in this thread. Here are some pictures from delivery:

Break-in is complete.

Our M3 is back from break-in and got her up in the air for a look on the underside. One of the popular modifications is what is called a Clutch Delay Valve, which limits the amount of fluid transfer/engagement of the clutch for smoother performance, but limiting performance for most.

Rather than go into detail, Zeckhausen has an excellent article here: http://www.zeckhausen.com/cdv.htm

Location of the CDV on D/S:

Comparison of CDV and larger valve on bench - casting numbers are slightly different:

Comparison of CDV orifice and line fitting:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300015.jpg

The CDV does not appear to have any restriction, there is no need for replacement/modification.

Since the M3 was up in the air, it was a good time to take a look at the wheels. Our M3 was ordered with 18" Gunmetal wheels (since they will eventually be replaced).

Casting numbers on front wheel:

Stats:

Front: 18x8.5" ET29
Tire Size: 245/40-18
Weight: 50.75lbs

Rear: 18x9.5" ET23
Tire Size: 265/40-18
Weight: 52.0lbs

We're looking into a few replacements on wheels at the moment.

With the weekend over and 1200 mile break-in completed, it's been a blast seeing how this car can actually perform. The new M3 is a real head-turner on the road getting automatic thumbs-up on during freeway driving from other drivers. It's time to make the M a bit more aggressive.

Next we need an altitude adjustment. There are a few routes to go on the M3 already, with lowering springs being the easiest way to achieve this and get away using the stock suspension components.

But where's the fun in that?

We're giving this car the KW treatment. Suspension arrived today:

There is a limited of suspension offerings for the new M3 since the car is still very new. H&R and RDSport are among the companies that offer springs to give the M3 a minimal drop and still keep within the "window" of EDC, which this vehicle is equipped with.

We've had a few M3s in and out of the shop with both suspension setups and was not satisfied with the stance and need something a bit more extreme.

KW has been in the scene for some time and fit the bill. With 14-level adjustable compression damping, it is among one of the best kits on the current market. Also since we are equipped with EDC, the kit came with the proper EDC code isolators to keep everything in check.

Next on the list was exhaust. There are quite a few exhaust choices for the e9X m3 already and we will be working with a few of these companies during the course of our building - including our own.

The stock exhaust setup on the M3 is very good from the headers back to the mufflers, but can benefit a bit on aesthetics from the rear since the stock muffler seems to protrude a bit from beneath the rear bumper. For our first choice, we went with the Remus Sport since this provided a stylish tip and shed about 10lbs from the stock muffler.

Moving onto aesthetics.

The reflectors are simply hideous on this car and take aware from the smooth body lines on the front bumper. Also since the vehicle was delivered with a front plate - those holes needed to be filled as well in order to reverse the damage done from the dealership. After obtaining some flat bumper plugs, we had these and the OEM bumper reflectors repainted in Sparkling Graphite in order to cloak these with the vehicle to clean up the front a bit.

We're also not fans of chrome - not one bit. There are numerous black items on the vehicle from the window trim, hood vents, lower mesh, you name it. The chrome just doesn't seem to mesh well at all - so Matte Black was decided upon in order to add to an already aggressive look to the M3.

The front grilles were swapped out for our Matte Black versions as well as the fender gills resprayed in Matte Black to match the kidneys:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300048.jpg

Also forgot to add one more item that was repainted in Matte Black:

More to come...

They say the first thing a woman notices is your shoes. The same applies to vehicles as they make the biggest statement. Now that the drop was dialed in, exhaust installed - we needed to get some new wheels bolted up.

We have a very close relationship with the vendors we choose to work with, VMR not being any bit of the exception. We decided to debut the V710s from VMR ain early June when fitments were being verified:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/velocity/V710/e9x/e92m3/eassge92m3/v710e92m3010.jpg

For reference, these are the General UHPs in 245/35-19 in front and 275/30-19 in rear. Vehicle is on stock suspension, a lot has changed since then.

We have a very unique planned for this M3, meaning all chrome or silver items are out the window. Since the fender gills and kidneys were always swapped for Matte Black - we wanted the wheels to match.

Wheels are the new V710 in Matte Black, which we will be releasing in early October. Specs are as follows:

Finish:
Matte Black

Bolt Pattern:
5x120mm

Center Bore:
72.6mm

Size:
19"x8.5" +25mm Matte Black
19"x9.5" +22mm Matte Black

Weight:
Wheel: 25.0lbs Front
Wheel: 25.5lbs Rear

Tire Size:
255/35-19 Front Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
285/30-19 Rear Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/velocity/V710/e9x/e92m3/eassge92m3/v710e92m300062.jpg

Rubber is a bit more aggressive as well and we choose the Bridgestone Potenza RE050As in 255/35-19 up front and 285/30-19 in rear. New wheels were installed and debuted at SoCal Euro last Sunday.

Backtrack a bit , as seems I skipped over one of our first mods. :)

Those that have experience with us know about our heavy involvement in integrated devices such as video/reverse camera and iPod integration. The same path is planed for this vehicle as our current e46 - with the intention of presenting vehicle options that are both convenient and non-obtrusive to the driver, as if they were offered from BMW.

One of the first mods upon delivery was the remoteKEY convenience module.

A while back we were able to release a convertible top module for the e93 Convertibles that allowed for key FOB-controlled access to the convertible top and windows, as well as one-touch and operation while the vehicle was in motion. Button commands are received and translated by remoteKEY to other factory commands in order to utilize the new features when desired.

On the e46, folding mirrors was an euro-only option that required an expensive upgrade for US vehicles since the motors were not available separately. thankfully, BMW fitted the US models with the folding mirror option in Premium package-equipped models so we can enjoy the same options as the euro models.

remoteKEY Product Features:

- Remote window control: One-Touch operation of the windows and sunroof with the original remote on all models (US and Euro)
- Automatic door unlocking when ignition is turned off. Avoid having to pull the door handles twice to get out
- Comfort windows: All windows can be closed One-Touch with the wide "All-Windows" button in the driver's door.
- User programmable: The module can be individually enabled or disabled. All settings are retained even if the car battery is disconnected.
- Remote Fold-in Mirrors (if equipped). remoteKEY will fold in your mirrors on alarm activation. Optional autofold or manual fold (double button press) are among your available options.
- Shop/Diagnose mode: If activated the module is completely passive, as if it was not installed at all. It becomes invisible to diagnostic tools.

Installation is as follows:

Open glovebox to access fuse panel/CAN wiring:
http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300069.jpg

Access panel removed exposing fuses/wiring harness:
http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300070.jpg

Harness pulled for easier access, CANBUS wires are twisted pair in green & orange color:
http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300071.jpg

remoteKEY installed - simple 4 wire tap. Green LED confirms proper install & CAN activity:
http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300072.jpg

That's it. Tuck module away and close govebox door to prepare for programming.

Programming:

All programming is done by using the blinker stalk and the two green turn signal/indicator arrows on your gauge display. Functions are indicated by the left arrow and their settings are indicated by the right arrow. Navigation is done by pushing the stalk down (next function) or pushing it up to move to the next available setting. After selecting the last function or function setting, the setup automatically jumps back to the first function/lowest setting. Each time either a new function is selected or a function's setting is changed, the blinker arrows will indicate the new status by first blinking the function (left arrow) and then the current setting (right arrow).

To enter programming mode, you will tap the UNLOCK button on the remote fob, then push and hold the blinker stalk DOWN (only into the first position, not all the way!) until the left arrow blinks once to indicate function 1. Now let go of the stalk. From this point on you can navigate through the functions by pushing the stalk down and once the arrows are finished indicating the function and setting, change the setting by pushing it up. The new settings are active immediately.

To end programming mode, either wait for 30 sec. or insert the key into the ignition lock. End of programming mode is indicated by both arrows lighting up simultaneously for 1 second.

Programming Options:

Function 1 - Module Mode (0=OFF / 1=REMOTE / 2=REMOTE+UNLOCK)
When disabled (setting 0), the module becomes completely inactive and behaves as if it was not installed. This is especially useful when the vehicle is taken into the dealership for inspection/repairs. The module can not even be seen by and does not interfere with BMWs GT1/OPS programmer, nor our Autologic terminal.

- Setting 1 allows remote operation of the windows and the sunroof by using the original factory remote fob: Press and hold UNLOCK for 2 seconds: Open all windows
- Press and hold LOCK for 2 seconds: Close all windows
- Press and hold UNLOCK for 5 seconds: Open windows and sunroof
- Press and hold LOCK for 5 seconds: Close windows and sunroof

My personal favorite in addition to the remote operations, setting 2 allows automatic unlocking of the doors when the ignition is turned off. This removes the requirement to pull the door handles twice to get out of the car.

Function 2 - Compatibility (0=Sedan / 1=Coupe)
This function allows setting of different compatibility modes for the module. If switched OFF, the module uses a programming sequence known to be "more compatible" but activation of the windows and sunroof may take a couple of seconds after the remote button is released. Setting 1 allows for a quicker reaction and simultaneous closing of sunroof and windows but may only raise the front windows half-way on Sedan models.

Function 3 - Folding mirrors (0=OFF / 1=AUTO / 2=MANUAL)
This function allows remote control of the motorized mirrors (if equipped). Setting 1 (auto) will fold the mirrors automatically upon locking/unlocking the car by remote. Setting 2 (manual) allows manual folding/unfolding of the mirrors by remote by double-tapping the LOCK button on the remote.

Here are some videos of the module in action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO9-Q8ubwsg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGlf8M2oC9Y

While it's a bit hard to see in the video - the sunroof is fully operational as well. More info on remoteKEY can be found on our site:

remoteKEY window Control for 3-series (e9X) Coupe & Sedan
http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?products_id=1796

remoteKEY does not interfere with BMWs equipped with Comfort Access. As stated earlier, the module features are intended to be used and not seen with seamless integration as if it were originally offered by BMW.

Project is coming together nicely. More to come.

Quite a few things have happened since our last entry - we'll be jumping around a bit and getting back on track later.

Fibre was completed today. Those with e46M3s know how heavily we were involved in the carbon fibre process - with the same intentions for our e92. Since the new M3s come equipped with an optional 1x1 carbon roof, all pieces need to match in order to really make this project come alive.

Here's some teasers in the meantime:

e9X M3 Mirror Caps in 1x1 weave:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300075.jpg

And of course, the holy grail - M3 intake:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/eas/vehicles/journal/eas/e92m3/ease92m300076.jpg

The intake is simply beautiful and will make an already impressive underhood scenery even better.

The seat fibre pieces will not be installed on this vehicle, with more on this in our next journal entry. Those that have met us at the last couple of meets or have dropped by will know exactly why.

We have a big day planned for this beast tomorrow. More to come shortly.

Going a bit out of order as this was installed back in August, just never had the chance to post pictures.

One of my favorite mods to date is the BMW Performance Steering Wheel (PSW). The OEM BMW steering wheel is a bit thick for my taste, the PSW was right in the middle of a standard e9x wheel and the M3 with a combo Alcantara/Leather construction.

Features:

• Stopwatch
• Race computer with lap times, section times and 400m/ 1/4 mile race functions
• Display of lateral and longitudinal acceleration
• Temperature display
Diesel engine: water temperature
Petrol engine: Oil and water temperature
• Gear shift indicator (user adjustable)

Features are selectable via the integrated buttons underneath the alcantara in the 10 & 2-o'clock positions on the wheel. While I'm not a fan of the white stitching on the wheel, everything else seems to be right on track.

Oddly enough, BMW Does not mention the M3 as compatible for the upgrade, as deep into the install we may have found out why. The power and ground wires were removed from the M3 model's OBDII port, which powers the steering wheel - known as lead A1 & A2 on the wheel (Green/Brown & Brown).

With a multimeter, substitute leads were easily found and we were back in business.

Overall satisfaction is very high on this wheel, however we have a few ideas on how to make this wheel even better with the possibility of even adding more features to the LCD display.

Needless to say, this makes the driving experience even better. For those that have questions on operation or installation - please feel free to contact me directly.

Damn Tom your going all out on this project...is there anyway this type of steering wheel be incorparated on the e46/e39 models? it does not have to be the same model but something similar with the function and the goodies?

As I posed this question to another MFest member sinse I have a E90 M3 6sp Man. & never got a response, Tom I was wondering if you can add your input on the "shift light indication".

My question is: when you are turning the steering wheel around corners & turns, are you able to still view the lights without any obstruction? I have the E46 SMG & with the shift indicator lights around the tach, I can always view when to shift all the time, even when going around corners. So to me, my observation guess would be that you couldn't see these lights all the time, which then I feel it's only good for straight lint shifting, especially with a 6sp Manual. Your thoughts please :)

I've been using the wheel since early August.

While driving/turning, the shift lights are still in your field of vision and are equipped with multicolored LEDs to let you know what RPM range you are in at or about shifting.

The same situation is with low mounted gauges in race cars, you'll often see them clocked to have the normal operating temperatures in the 12-o clock position. This way the driver only has to glance slightly to know he's within the same operating range.

Shift lights should be intended to only grab your attention for a short while, which the PSW does provide a good job doing so.

Next on the list was a bit of something to spice up the exterior.

We're a big fan of Ericsson line and first on the list is the e92 bootlid. I've admired this piece since the very beginning as most parts from Ericsson due to their subtle style that simply commands respect - rather than begging for attention.

Fitment was very close and needed only minor prepping prior to installation. This particular trunk is of very high quality and flows very well with existing body lines with OEM-like fitment after installation.

Special thanks to Greg @ GT Motoring for expediting the decklid and getting the piece here in time for paint.

Our M3 arrived with M3 Carbon Leather interior, which I've never really been a fan of. Particularly, the center console doesn't match the rest of the pieces and at times just feels cheap.

So instead - we'll take matters in our own hands.

A new 1x1 weave Carbon interior kit was installed with a Matte finish, keeping the interior subtle while still giving an aggressive look.

Matte fibre doesn't exhibit the deep gloss in typical pieces and has a more reserved look, especially in the e92's interior. We were simply looking for a slight difference, unlike anything else on the market and uniform coverage throughout the interior.

(description from the RE product website)

A. 6061-T6 ACQ Billet Carrier - Painstakingly CNC machined from a block of aluminum about the size of a brick, this carrier has incredible strength and rigidity over a stock component. It incorporates Rogue Engineering's Pivot Relocation Cup, to raise the pivot point of the shifter higher, allowing the shifter more drivetrain clearance. For additinoal strength, the rear of the carrier has a steel spike to secure to the mounting point of the vehicle. An important feature is that it realigns the selector rod so that it is near the factory position, preventing off-axis forces against the transmission's selector rod gear joint, preventing shifting notchiness. If you wonder why Rogue Engineering's shifters have always been the SMOOTHEST shifters on the market, this is one of many small details which allow many of our customers to recognize the ingenuity of RE OCTANE SSKs.

B. Our OCTANE shifter lever may seem like the same lever we use in our other kits, but at a closer glance, you will see that it incorporates a double bend, to emulate the factory shifter lever. In essence, the top of the factory lever is moved backwards, approximately 1/2 from the axis of the lower part of the shifter. Other companies have made the mistake of only bending the top of another factory lever backwards, hoping to solve this ergonomic challenge. However, bending the top of the lever back only tips the shift knob towards the driver, and does not emulate the factory position accurately.

C. Rogue Engineering's Self-Adjusting Pivot Point (SAPP) is still used in our E9X M3 application, proving that our simple and effective method of lower pivot tension control maintains reliability, durability, and longevity. Just ask the 50% of the Grand Am Koni Challenge teams racing with Rogue Engineering shifters in their cars.

D. We replace the hollow, factory selector rod with a heavier, TIG welded, stainless steel replacement. This adds additional mass, over the press-tube construction of the factory part. This helps the shifts in the vehicle feel factory smooth, while allowing for the reduced throws. Our weighted selector rod is twice the mass of the factory part (factory is 120g, ours is 245g).

E. We use factory replacement pivot cups and locking circlips to secure the shifter together. These are the same components used in all current model BMWs.

Let's begin:

1. Start by pulling off the shifter boot (pulls upward)

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/rogue/shifter/e9xm3/SS002.jpg

2. Gripping tight on the shifter knob - pull upward. Be sure to keep your face and sunroof (if equipped) out of reach as this can be potentially dangerous when pulled free

Overall feel:

With only a couple of days of driving, this is already one of my favorite mods. Shifter "slop" is dramatically reduced and being greeted with shorter, crisper shifts makes this far even more fun during spirited driving.

As throughout the years, the RE shifters are the best in quality - with no exceptions on the e9x M3.

Next on the list was brakes.

We've always been a big fan of AP Racing BBK systems. AP Racing brake discs are made from the highest quality cast iron. Curved vane technology is used to shed internal heat, and the optimized cross-drilled and slotted face pattern is developed to increase pad bite and improve cooling. Each hole is radiused, not chamfered, to reduce noise and increase fatigue strength.

The new 7100/7150 AP kits were also designed to fit behind stock 18" wheels and clear without the need for spacers, which is an added plus when our M3 starts seeing more track use.

The AP Racing engineers are the same ones who manufacture the OE brakes for Ascari, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Caparo, Farbio, GTA, Holden HSV, Koenigsegg, Lotus, McLaren, Morgan, Noble, Pagani, Rossion, Seat, Spyker, Tramontana, Ultima, Zolfe and other limited, high-end exotic supercars.

Strap Drive Systems

The Strap Drive System (Patent Pending) has been developed by AP Racing both for Road and Race applications. The standard fitment discs on many performance cars can suffer from brake vibrations caused by disc distortion. This generally occurs on fast road and track installations.

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/apracing/36.jpg

On many performance cars the typical standard disc will be a heavy duty ventilated single piece casting. Couple this type of rigid disc to a standard hub and wheel bearing and the result is any hub distortion / run out will transfer onto the disc brake faces. This eventually results in brake vibrations, usually picked up through the steering wheel.

http://www.europeanautosource.com/images/vendors/apracing/37.jpg

The strap drive system offers a new take on the floating systems already in the market place. Strap drive uses a series of stainless steel straps to locate the disc to the mounting bell, producing a flexible coupling between the hub and the disc faces. This allows the disc to run true in the caliper under all conditions and also permits the disc to expand and contract without being restricted. Some current replacement discs in the market place have evolved from Motorsport applications, they typically use a drive bobbin to provide some disc float and were devised to reduce pad knock off on race cars. This system can work on a road application but there are some major drawbacks that the Strap Drive has overcome with its simplicity.

Bobbin float discs rely on a series of drive bobbins moving freely in drive slots. This movement can create wear during service and promote noise. The slots can fill up with road & brake debris causing them to seize. AP Racings strap couplings can't suffer from any of these drawbacks. Therefore service life, brake noise and also brake pedal travel are all improved.

VF Engineering in Anaheim, CA agreed to come on board with their upcoming S65 Supercharger which has been in development since Dec 08 debuting at MFest 3 and shown at Bimmerfest 2009 on their Project Stealth Fighter:
http://www.terabass.com/web/m5board/bimmerfest_2009_14.jpg
source: www.terabass.com

Our Project M3 was dropped off at VF's headquarters for installation. at this time, our SuperCharger kit is considered "proof of concept" and not the finished product as a entirely new cast intake manifold will be released later this fall, running alongside Project Stealth Fighter at various events.

Boost is at a moderate 5.5lbs with 510whp, an approximate 150whp gain on California's 91 octane. Vehicle is still in a "test and tune" state, with figures changing as further tuning is implemented.

Good thing we upgraded to the 295 AD08 in the rear, we'll be needing them. Below is a quick overview of installation, thanks to VF for the photos:

Here's an upcoming teaser of the new steering wheel that will be installed in the next couple of days. I've never been a fan of the 50/50 Alcantara/Leather design - so we tool of the BMW PSW wheel and have it cut/rewrapped to our specs.

The stock BMW Performance Steering Wheel was stripped down to the wire frame and cut to offer the "flatbottom" seen on other euro models and offer additional leg clearance.

Stock LCD display and shift lights are retained, with the mode buttons being a bit more pronounced, easier to find in a bit more focused situations. The wheel is confirmed to fit within grip while the leather (very soft blend I might add) is both comfortable and non-slippery while driving.

Stitching was also switched from standard white to black.

It's been a while since we've had an update in the journal, as we're preparing for Mfest, as well as the unveiling of the VF Supercharger system.

While our thoughts are the M3 exterior is pure awesomeness on its own merit - the Amuse/Ericsson team designed some pieces that just work great, keeping respect with the body lines on the side panels and making an already aggressive stance better. An added bonus was the deletion of the side reflectors.

The official Mfest flier shows how plain the exterior really is - we need to change things up a bit and add a bit of attitude:

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg289/l8dback/MFEST_FINAL_APPROVAL.jpg

Since we installed the Ericsson trunk last year - we felt a 1-year anniversary present was due to round out the front:

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9224/ericsson01.jpg

The Ericsson piece fits the bill nicely giving a subtle hint of serious business underneath the hood. The wider/lower air intake will allow maximum airflow to the heat exchanger while setting itself apart from other M3s on the road.

MFest IV was a blast! Months of preparation was about to be over in just 3 days while in Las Vegas - the big surprise was getting our project out on the track, in which Las Vegas Motor Speedway was reserved just for the event.

Saturday morning has arrived - MFest IV Track event has begun!
http://europeanautosource.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/mfest-2010-1280x866-93.jpg

The track was our goal for the weekend, and the M3 had to make the journey to Vegas and back on its own power while datalogging. Since daily driveability was a very important factor for real world testing, this was the perfect opportunity to prove it.

First Impressions: The VF Supercharger felt absolutely amazing during the long journey - probably the first time I wished the trip to Vegas was longer. With linear power delivery on demand at all times, the M3 felt like a beast was ready to be unleashed each time the pedal was mashed to the floor, with a few spirited passes to remind us this was finally happening.

With the booth set up, the M3 arrived on Saturday morning.

http://europeanautosource.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/mfest-2010-1280x866-128.jpg

During the show - we were able to claim 3rd place for Best modified M3, 3rd Place for best modified non-M (135 project) and Best of Show (VF/Vorsteiner GTRS3 Widebody Project).

On Sunday afternoon, in what seemed like a blur - we packed up and headed back to eas. Bringing back precious memories, meeting great people that made this event possible and even some winnings from the Blackjack table made MFest IV better than one can imagine.

Special thanks to our sponsors: VF Engineering, Yokohama Tire, Macht Schnell, Cool Carbon, VMR wheels, GIAC and Recaro for their support and special thanks to Chris @ MFest for making this event possible and having the opportunity to put a bunch of faces to names, especially those that made special attempts to come by the booth just to say hi.

With the data collected to, from and during the event - as well as on the track, these files can now be reviewed and supplied for fine-tuning before kit release.

Next target.............Bimmerfest.

Our core experience before starting eas was performing OEM retrofits. Everything from Bluetooth installations, TV tuners, full navigation retrofits and what specific parts and coding were needed - this was right up our alley.

With the release of the 2011 M3 in LCI form, we get to experience this again. :)

As you're probably already aware, the connectors are much different than the 07-10 taillamps, making a custom harness necessary. With the newly development Plug and Play (PnP) harnesses, this makes the upgrade a snap with no cutting or splicing necessary.

Verifying pinouts with the Autologic programmer
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/9913/autologic.jpg

The Autologic was most helpful since we were able to isolate each individual lamp without the need for someone remaining in the front seat at the controls. Also - since the taillamps are not fused and instead controlled by the footwell module, this was absolutely necessary as any shorts will turn off the module, requiring it to be reset at the dealership - possibly raising some eyebrows.

The Autologic verifies that all proper pinouts are used, tested ad verified.

Full Power test (All lamps)
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/3514/e92ecitaillightcomparis.jpg

All lamp functions work properly:
Brake (Single and Dual stage)
Blinker Indicator/Hazard
Reverse Lamp
Running Lamp

As expected, there is a slight amount of LED flicker at startup due to BulbCheck sending voltage pulses through the system in order to verify bulb operation - this only happens for about a second and will not damage the lamp or LCM.

What about Load Equalizers/Resistors? IMHO: These are a band-aid solution for the electrical system, which the equalizers get very hot during use and can cause damage if not installed or vented properly. Coding is the proper solution, which will disable BulbCheck.

A Quicktest of the system with the new lamps installed has been performed and will be sent to Autologic for review, which will provide coding and disable BulbCheck in the rear lamps since the LEDs will likely outlast the vehicle - eliminating the flickering.

With some datalogging back and forth, we were greeted with a new selection:

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/259/lciautologic.jpg

While coding passed (4 major module updates are written), only half the mountain was claimed. Here's a short iPhone video clip to show the flickering on ignition startup

A logging session was taken and sent off to Germany, we'll be giving this another shot in the next day or so and hopefully, get this project wrapped up before the weekend.
