Well, the day has come. The e39 M5 has been the most amazing car i'd ever owned, but the time had come to move on and let someone else enjoy it. Haidar and his wife Stacey flew up to norther california today to pick her up and take her home. Nice to know the car is in good hands and will be enjoyed and treated well. A couple pics of the bittersweet moment below.
Another M5 for you SoCal guys....

well, i 'finished' modding the e39 probably early 2007, and typically once that happens, i start to get bored. The e39 kept my interest for a long time, about 6 years in total.
A couple years ago, i bought the car that initially attracted me to bmw when i was in college, an e34 M5, and have been playing with/restoring that. A few weeks ago i came across a new 535 that someone ordered with a maunal trans, sport and prem packages, and then bailed out on. Dealer was having a hard time moving a 535 with a stick, the price was amazing, so i picked that up for a while. the twin turbo engine is nice, nothing like the s62, but very smooth and torquey, and very modifiable, should that bug bite.
My/Haidar's e39 m5 dyno'd an honest 400hp at the wheels with no special fans or tricks, just a normal dyno shop, with a relatively small fan at the grill, on 91 octane gas. Dinan S2, cams, ported heads, it really starts pulling hard at 4k rpm. Against an e60, it's a couple car lentghs ahead until about 140.

Mike - say it ain't so! At least it's going to Haidar, the most deserving new owner out there...
Mike supplied me with a brake caliper after tyhe piston seized...small world as I bought Haidar's Dinan BBK kit...now Batman buys mottati's car...small world indeed! We have closed the circle...

It's true guys, I am the lucky guy who got to take this beautiful M5 home. Stacey and I flew into San Fransisco Saturday morning and drove her home that day.
I can't even begin to tell you guys how immaculate Mike has kept this car. Mike is a legend on M5board and his knowledge of this car is second to none. :worshippy: I bought this car sight unseen with no hesitation.
When I woke up this morning, I went straight to the garage to make sure it wasn't all just a great dream. Then I spent some quality time washing the millions of bugs that were caked on the drive home.
Big thanks to Mike for everything. Also thanks to everyone for the congrats, and last but not least, thanks to Batwife. I'm pretty lucky to be married to someone who supports my addiction to beautiful cars.

Glad to see her go to someone who will cherish her like i did. Also look forward to seeing Haidar's further progress.
an aside, Haidar, there should be a spare set of mafs inserts in one of those boxes in the trunk, i forgot to mention. I was in on an early group buy, got a set of mafs, put them in my car, but didn't notice any real improvement, the mafs at the time were not too old, maybe 20k miles on them, so i kept them. If you ever do the 'mafs fuel flow test' on the obc, my best reading was 177L/h!! (that's a lot of fuel moving thru that engine).

Yes I did see the MAFS, thank you! I'm still trying to figure out the ice link :laughhard: Figured out the bluetooth, the jammer scared the daylights out of me! hahahaha Which manual should I download for the ice link?

When Haidar and Stacey they were going to have "another ONE" at HIN last weekend, my jaw dropped and I hurriedly threw my cigarette away. Hugged Stacey...and said congrats to the new baby!!!
The Dumb A$$ I am didn't realize it was not to be literally taken :laughhard: and I picked up the thrown cigarette right away, lol...but nevertheless, they did get a new baby...Mike, you couldn't have chosen a more deserving man of such beastly machinery...passing the torch to Haidar is something you'll never regret...
Love stories like this!!! Another happy ending at MFestforum.com! =)!!!!

Congrats to Batman!!!!! Wow! One of most sought after E39 M5!
Mike, thanks for all the great posts on the M5board. I learned a lot from you and I cannot thank you enough for all the great help you provided in time of need.
Greatly appreciated.
Similar to you, I am pretty much done modding my beast.
I have Ground Control suspension sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. After that, I will just enjoy driving the heck out of it.
Then perhaps within a couple of years, get a new toy to mod and play around with.
Again, congrats to Batman and many thanks to you Mike.

congrats, guys!
man, that's one of the hardest things in the world to do....see your baby drive off into the sunset with the new owner. hahaha, at least you know it'll be well taken care of. that always eases the pain.

Hmm, i think i have the ice link set up so you just control it thru the ipod, as pushing the buttons and waiting on the nav are a bit slow. You know, i may have a manual for it at home, i'll dig around a bit and if i find it i'll mail it to you, or at least tell you how it works!
I've got some dyno sheets somewhere too, i think it's in a drawer in my workbench... see you should have picked the car up at my house and we'd have probably found more stuff!
iirc, i bought it from EAS, maybe 2-3 years ago.
Oh, i canceled the sirius today too, so if it stops working, that's why!

the jammer scared the daylights out of me! hahahaha
I was falling asleep going down the I-5 and that woke me up! Then again going to pick up our kiddos a loud tone went off, we both jumped and then realized it was someone calling and not the laser jammer! LOL Wow, we felt stupid afterwards!
When Haidar and Stacey they were going to have "another ONE" at HIN last weekend, my jaw dropped and I hurriedly threw my cigarette away. Hugged Stacey...and said congrats to the new baby!!!
That was THE BEST!!! Jo's face was priceless hehehhehehe

Mike, don't tell him that. Knowing my husband he will find a way to drive the beast up there anyway just for the sake of driving it!! LOL Road trips in M5's are awesome! You shave your drive down by a couple hours ;) lol

Thanks guys, I am absolutely in love with this car. There are still a lot of things I would like to do to the car, mostly carbon. Mike did an amazing job putting her together, I couldn't have asked for more. Thanks for all the congrats and kind words guys.
Mike, I will have to contact Sirius and start a subscription, Stacey and I really liked all the options. It still worked as of today, might be gone tomorrow. All i know is going to work or anywhere else is really fun now. hahahah
