View Full Version : Concorso Italiano 2009, Who is interested?

RevMan

An event for August 2009

What: Concorso Italiano
When: Friday, August 14, 2009
Time: 0900-1600
Where: Laguna Seca Golf Ranch
Monterey, CA

Registration Cost: Non Italian exhibitor, $150 through May 31, 2009

web: www.concorso.com

The event is returning to a "golf course" setting

I have been in communication with the event coordinators and they can set up a "M-class" corral. The event will be concentrated on Fairways 1, 9, and 18. The Marque for this year is Porsche so expect a big turnout. You will see every possible Italian car you can think about.

I am willing to serve as the interface between the Mfest group and Concorso to set up this parking corral. We can set up a flag or banner in the area. We can even set up our own hospitality tent if desired. Car exhibitors will have a different entrance than the spectators.

This is a "sick" event and shouldn't be missed by the "high end" automobile enthusiast.

Let me know who is interested as we must get registered and start making room reservations. This is being held at the same time as the "Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance"(Sunday, August, 16)
http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/

In addition, the BMW Festorics at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races at at Laguna Seca Raceway(Sat, Aug 15 and 16). www.festorics.org
The Golden Gate Chapter has a tent on turn 5 for those interested. http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/?page=calendar&id=391

The Plan:
Revman is looking for a house to rent for the weekend to save cost, the plan is to leave thursday afternoon (if possible) settle down at the house, wash and quick detail the cars and bbq and beer at the same time:drool: (wait for the late comers) , the next day roll out together with our Mfest NorCal bro's to the concourso and Saturday we'll visit the bay area and possible meet out there aswell, Sunday a.m go back to SoCal...it'll fun and chill event:goldcup:

SWEET! If anyone attending is seriously on the out and out, desperate to find lodging let me know via PM. My previously quoted price of $175/ night is now inaccurate because I had to find a different rental, more expensive ($300/ night), but much better place and much better location. So... let me know, we may be able to arrange something. :D

Lets fill up this list so I can let the event coordinators how much space we need for our cars......

Lodging is going to be the tough part. Got to plan now! VRBO.com(as recommended by SC Trojan Man) will work. Most local hotels will either be full or charging "big" $$$$

There is also National Rental By Owner (nrbo.com) much more limited selection. If folks can band together the pricey house rentals that are left on vrbo.com can be split by a group. Good luck all, I'm hoping for a big turn out.

For those thinking about Concorso.
1. If you've never been to Concorso, it will be an experience with exotic car enthusiasts to remember!
2. It is back on the golf course where it belongs, no more tarmac.
3. Camaraderie at its best
4. Just visit concorso.com to see the type of cars coming.
5. I am working with the event coordinators on a special parking corral for Mfest and other M-class rides.
6. Remember, drive down on Th, Concorso on Fri, other shows on Sat(Festorics at Laguna Seca) or chillin' at the park with BBQ.
7. JUST SAY "I'LL BE THERE WITH MY BROS"!

Here's to seeing all of you at Concorso.

Guys,

Make sure you get onto the Concorso.com site and get registered to get the early bird fee. You have until June 30 to get it done. Just say YES and join us at Concorso! The registration fee is good for 1 car and two people.

I have been on the phone with the Concorso organizing staff and they are committed to working with the Mfest group and arranging a special parking corral. In addition, we will be sending a letter to let Concorso know that Mfest enthusiasts will be coming. This will also be advertising for Mfest at the same time as they will send it out to the Concorso mailing list.

If everything works out for the lodging arrangement I am working on, you have a fantastic surprise in store. More exciting details soon.......

The important issue here, for those who will be going to Concorso is to get registered. The deadline for early registration is June 30. We will be posting NorCal caravan information closer to the date. I am arranging lodging for those who are interested. Most of the close hotels are booked. The remainder are further away and/or are pricey. The place I am working on will accommodate ~14 guests. If all works out, it will be a place fitting of the Mfest crowd. Plan on ~100/night. What you will get will amaze you.

Let me know who is interested in sharing a house.

To purchase on the website do I do the display vehicle tickets? Does that cover two people?

It says "All other guests or handlers in your party must purchase an additional ticket." Or is that all other guests after two?

Thanks for all the help guys.

The standard registration of $150 at Concorso covers 1 car, driver, and one passenger. We're getting closer to the house #. Once we hit 12, I'm pullin' the trigger on the "big house". Like I said in a prior post, I am shooting for ~$100/night, and it will be worth it. Jo, I know you're in. Post up!!!!

You know what guys, this makes the Mfest registration seem like a steal...... Just a thought...

I think the plan is to caravan on Thurs to the house, chill for a bit, detail cars, BBQ, and more. Then caravan early Fri am to park in the M-corral at Concorso. This should be a big entrance for Mfest. Still working on final numbers and a hospitality area for the M-corral with the event coordinators.

This is open to all, if you guys just want to come out but cannot make it to Concourso on time or just wanna come out as a spectator, you are still more than welcome to support, kick back and join us for the Trip, as Saturday we will be meeting our NorCal bro's and we'll have a meet up in the bay:excited: were trying our best to make this trip cost efficient and have more people to come out as this is something really unique and it'll be fun...

Based on the updated information from Concorso, this year has the most registered M-class cars in recent years. We will have the M-Corral. I am working with the event coordinators to get the Corral as close to the main event area as possible. We will have a seperate entrance to Concorso for registrants only. I am working on a few other perks for the M-Corral participants. This will be an event that will WOW you! It will be an opportunity to showcase the best that BMW has to offer!!! The event staff are looking forward to hosting us.

Regarding the house, I have sent the deposit, the next 50% is due next week, and the final payment due the first week of August. Plan on $100/night. You can send payment to Chris. It will be good to get a firm head count for the house to work out the numbers. Once I know who will be joining us at the house, I can PM you with the address and directions. We plan to do some cooking(BBQ) to save $$$ and experience the Camaraderie for which Mfest is known. Since there are only 4BR but 4500 sq ft, sleeping bags would help.

We will caravan from the house to Concorso on Fri, 8/14 and park in the M-Corral. Details to follow.

As you know, Chris is working on the Saturday itinerary.

Sobi, are you in for the house?
aznazasin, haven't heard from you yet. Are you in for the house and registered for Concorso?

Hey SC Trojan Man,

It is my pleasure. This really allows the Mfest enthusiasts enjoy this crazy addiction and "Camaraderie" to the "MAX". This is really shaping up to be a great event. I am sure more will do some long range planning for next year and join us. This is about the best that can be done for a gathering that is equidistant from SoCal and NorCal.

Hey iveman27,
There will be an M-Corral at CI. All M-class BMWs will be parked in this area. Mfest will be a large part of it. We will have an M-Corral hospitality tent. More specific details on the parking situation to follow shortly. The Mfest guys will be driving in "caravan" style from Carmel. You are welcome to join us. Where will you be coming from? Our house is ~6-7 mi from CI.

Here is the house breakdown.
I rented it for 3 nights
1000/night + 10.5% tax($315) + $275 cleaning fee=$3590
$800 refundable deposit
I was planning on a break even point of 12 paying guests/night. This comes to ~100/person/night. I am covering $200/night myself.
If the rental rate was $100/car/night, we would exceed the capacity of the house.
So you see, I am in for $3590 + $800 refundable deposit for the 4500 sq ft, 4 BR, 6 BA house. I tried to get housing accommodations which everyone would enjoy and cetrainly less than a hotel. Just for example, a room at the Monterey Marriott is going for $559/night. Embassy Suites, Seaside is $497/night. Hilton in Scotts Valley $212/night.

I think the house is maxed out at 14 or so. Oh, BTW, the place I am renting from said he got an offer for $8000 for the 3 nights which he turned down because we already rented the place.

This list is not complete. There are at least 25 M-class cars out of ~40 BMWs registered. I will see an updated list in the next few days. Don't worry, if you got a registration packet, you are good to go and are on the list. I will have the Concorso staff send out an email shortly to all M-Corral folks which will include the information about the parking and the hospitality tent. See you in the M-Corrral. The plan is to arrive at Concorso ~0700 on Friday and get the cars parked. Chris will be directing the parking of the M-Corral.

The Mfest/M-Corral and general BMW(not CCA sponsored) Corral will probably be close to each other. We just wanted to set up an organized area for the M-class/Mfest cars.

Holy crap, thanks for clearing this up for me and a few others on this site as well as others.

In a nut shell you have the special M tent and then there's the "general" BMW area/corral, for the non M cars, right?

Myself and others have registered here: http://www.cccbmwcca.org/BMW/BMW_CCA..._Concours.html to be with other BMW's.
I've never been to this big event, but have always wanted to, but when I read that there was going to be a "M" car only tent I was bummed, beings I don't have a M car.

NOW from what you posted, there is an area/corral for us lowly non M BMW folks. :(

Oh well, I joined with BMW sanctioned event over the hill at the Rancho Canada Golf Course in the Carmel Valley.

Reid

Reid, check out my link and see why there's been so much confusion, for me and for others, then tell me what you think and why there's been so much confusion.
I understand that you've coordinated with the Concorso people for a special M area/corral, but that wasn't for the non M folks like myself, unless I misunderstood.
Then from your explanation in an earlier post, THAT'S when I realized that there was also a non M area/corral within the Concorso.
This will be the first time I've attended any of these functions down there and from what people that went last year say, they were very disappointed on the venue used for such a prestigious event and are very happy to see that it's back on the "fairway", so to speak.
I'd love to come over and check out the Concorso after we hang with the CCA folks at the "other" location, but where do they stick the spectators cars, I hope it's not in some field 10 blocks away and then bus them in.
The only other way is to pay the 200 bucks and you have to be there by 9:30 and are stuck there until 5, again, unless I'm reading that incorrectly.

I guess we'll play it by ear.

Just so you see that I'm not losing my mind, I copied & pasted this from BMW Car Club of America website, it's actuualy in the Roundel too, here:

West Coast Concours free to BMW CCA members

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Annual Central Cal event adds BMW panache to Monterey

If you’ve been to the Monterey Historics, you know it’s an expensive weekend. But the Central Cal Chapter has one of the best shows in town for BMW fanatics, and it’s free to members: the BMW CCA West Coast Concours.

Free to observers, that is; if you want to enter your car in the judging, the $50 entry fee still applies.

You may not see as many Z8s as they had at the Quail last year, but the West Coast Concours at Rancho Cañada features free admission. (Andrew MacPherson photo)But for the rest of us, it’s a great chance to hang out and ogle some of the most beautiful BMWs in the country, new and old. And this year’s setting, Rancho Cañada Golf Club, will make you feel like one of the high rollers strolling around Pebble Beach.

Long affiliated with Concorso Italiano, the Central Cal event has attracted an amazing array of cars over the years, and the chapter felt that this was a good time to concentrate on presenting an all-BMW display. Competition is fierce in what was once called the Ultimate Clean-Car Contest—and those of us who are not addicted to the anal-retentive joys of absolute dust-free perfection are nevertheless impressed by the work of those who are.

Especially when gawking is free.

The West Coast Summer Concours opens the Monterey Historic weekend on Friday, August 14. (For full details, click here.) You can also register online if you want to enter your car in the judging competition by clicking here; or you may download a PDF registration form to register by mail by clicking here.

For vintage-racing fans, the weekend continues as the Golden Gate Chapter hosts a corral above Laguna Seca’s Turn Five, where you can enjoy a nice lunch while you watch the vintage races. You can even procure your Laguna Seca admission tickets through the Festorics site: click here.

As for me, I’m confining my Monterey adventure to the lawns of Rancho Cañada. Free admission is always my first criterion, and a chance to poke fun at the Q-Tip Brigade is always priceless. Since they are so tired from cleaning and polishing their cars for days on end, I can usually outrun them if they take offense.—Satch Carlson

Here's the link:http://bmwcca.org/ for the main BMW CCA website, scan around and see what they're talking about, no mention about being a part of the Concorso, at least this year, but you will see this:

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i233/keller235/CCAevent.jpg

and all the related info regarding it.

In any case, have a great time! :) &

Keith,

Sorry for the confusion. I tried to make it clear in my prior posts that Concorso is its own event. The reason I put so much effort into this event is in spite of the problems with last years venue, this year(under new ownership), they have returned to the "fairway". I expect a very elegant affair with plenty of viewing of the best cars in the world, including ours.

You are correct that at Concorso, there has always been a non Italian area and BMWs park there.

There are quite a few events happening in the Monterey area during that weekend including Concorso, Concors(BMWCCA), Quail, and Concours d' Elegance. We just picked Concorso for the event this year.

You are more than welcome to join us at Concorso or at the house for the BBQ after the event. It is ~13 mi from Concorso and 7 mi from Laguna Seca.

I appreciate the offer Reid, we'll have to see how everything goes that day, there seems to be lots going on.
Me and quite a few friends (and there cars) are doing the CCA event I mentioned above, but want to leave there by no later than 1:00 to check out the Concorso Italiano event, but again, from what I read, you have to be there by 9:30 and then you're stuck there until 5, is that true?
I realize there's a "spectator" parking area, but where's that located compared to where the event/fairway/corral's are at?

in the past, you could arrive and leave concorso whenever you wanted, even in the non italian corrals. i see what keith is saying, this year it says:

"Because this is a spectator event where people enjoy the vehicles on display throught the day, you WILL NOT be allowed to place your display vehicle any later than 9:30 am (after the event has started) nor may your display vehicle exit the event before 5:00 pm (before the event is over), August 14th 2009."

This is a bummer. I like concorso, but i don't want to spend the entire day there! I wanted to also check out the bmw concorse, etc. I've emailed the concorso people, Reid, maybe you can check on this too. I'm usually done with concorso by 1 or 2, especially if my kids are with me. To be stuck there until 5pm will probably mean i'm not going to be at the corral. There is just too much going on to be stuck at one event all day. (nothing personal! :p)

The interior was crafted using Alcantara, carbon fiber, aluminum and leather and was inspired by modern aircraft cockpits. The instrumentation includes the G–Force Meter. This display shows the dynamic drive forces during acceleration, braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends. Similar instruments are found in airplanes.

As you enter the main area on the fairway, tell them to direct you to the M-Corral/Mfest. This area will be adjacent to the DeTomaso Corral. As long as you tell them this, you will be directed to the proper parking Corral. All M-class BMWs will automatically be directed to the M-Corral. I will give them names of Mfest registrants so you will wind up with us.

The M-Corral is into the fairways pretty deep and we are part of the main event/show. We will be held to the 5p ending of the show. Following this, we can exit and proceed to the house for the Fri evening BBQ.

Hey Guys, be prepared for lots of smoke & ash from the Santa Cruz Mountain fire.
I was just watching the news and they had mentioned that the cars down at the Councors De Elegance are being covered with ash.
Now I would hope they are blowing it out of proportion, but I would imagine there would be some ash. :(

So Reid, if me and my crew can make the Bbq, can you or somebody PM me the address just in case?
Also, IF we can make it, what would you need us to bring, cash or "stuff"?

See you guys down there, Concorso or house for bbq, or both. ;)

I'm going to PM you my email addy, just in case you see this after I leave , that way can check my email from my Iphone, thanks.

Brief report from Concorso.

Yes there was some falling ash at Concorso, hopefully gone by tomorrow. The venue is "sick". The M-Corral and Mfest tent are waiting. I met with the field coordinator and everything is set for tomorrow.

The house is also "sick". I hope we don't lose anyone somewhere in the house..... LOL

I met with the creator of Concorso and he said that we have to be even closer to the main event. WOW, next year will even be better. I'm going to try and talk to them about allowing several of our cars to be presented at the stage just like the Italians.

Pics to come after tomorrow. BBQ set for post Concorso.

Dinan waiting for the Mfesters to show up Sat am.

What a weekend.

More later. Waiting for the SoCal guys to arrive.:drive2:

Here is a big thanks to all Mfesters who came from all over to experience Concorso.

Chris, thanks for all your support in making this event a success. The Mfest hospitality tent was pretty busy!!!

Keith, was great to meet you. Thank you for joining us. Looking forward to more future events.

TKC, glad it worked out so you could join us in the M-Corral.

The Concorso staff was fantastic and very accommodating. They mentioned that at Concorso 2010, they want us inside the main area!!!! WOW, this is progress.

This was a great opportunity to see familiar faces and meet new enthusiasts!!!

BigDaddyM3, hope you got home safely.

Robar, I am sure you are 100% by now!!!

I am looking forward to Concorso 2010 and expect Mfest to show even bigger, like double the number of cars. We should do some long range planning to take advantage of all the other enthusiast events during the week. The Historic races at Laguna Seca are Sat/Sun. There are auctions in downtown Monterey.
