My girlfriend's mom put some money in CD about 3 years ago and went back to Taiwan. Now she can't come back for a long time before her travel visa expired and she can't get it renewed. The account is under her name only and the teller told us that the only way to transfer the funds from the CD account is to have the mom sign some paperwork in person.
Can anyone help?

Thanks..

Thanks Chris :)
Jo taught me about the notarized power of attorney but if you know someone who can make decisions and make this easier, I wouldn't know how to love you more! Have a good weekend.

Under $100k it's covered by the fed. Gary, where she is at i'm sure there is a US embassy that can put together a doc that she give whoever in the states that she trust power of attorney. Make sure it's notarized and fedex the paper over here ASAP.

Power of attorney, as previously stated. If you need a notary, I can do it for you too. :p For a small fee ... (i.e. your car!!! LOL)

Thank you guys so much! My gf has been trying to get the money out since 2 years ago but the bank never told her about power of attorney... And now I am motivated enough to ask around for her since I started helping to pay for her rent and car payment... LOL (She is still a full time student for 6 more months)

After she mail the paper over here, do we still have to go to the embassy here to notarized again?

after her mom has it notarized there, you wouldn't need the embassy here to have it verified. the notary public should have an official seal on it already. other materials that the bank might request would be forms of ID from your girl.

the key thing is...approach the assistant manager or a personal banker at the least...i was once a teller during my yester years...and lol, u don't want a teller to take care of this more specific type of transaction =P...
