I don't mean to be starting threads left and right here...but the touring did go through a lot of transformation prior to SEMA 08.

This thread will cover my attempt to work with Arnold's Audio/Video setup. Unfortunately, the build was not completely done prior to SEMA.

As of right now, the touring now is equipped with the following:

Pioneer AVIC-F90BT Double Din Navi
San Disk 2GB SD Card
Apple Ipod Nano 8GB Superslim in Silver Finish
Custom Built Plexi-Glass CF Fabric Wrapped Bezel
Custom Built L Brackets
JL Audio 12 inch W3
HiFonics BXi1208D Mono Amp
Street Wire RCA Cords
Tsunami Power and Stereo Cords
TKO 15 inch Flip Down Monitor with independent slimline DVD player
Cobra 9990 Radar/Laser Detector hardwired

The following are items that weren't installed prior to SEMA:
Janus Design Bezel (didn't arrive on time)
Janus Design Mounting Kit (didn't arrive on time)
PAC Steering Wheel Module
Sony Playstation II
Kicker Multi Channel 08ZX6504 Amp
Rewire to eliminate DSP
Audiovox 2 pairs IRFFCSIR Wireless Headphones

The audio installation was a drag to be quite honest. DHL messed up the delivery time for the Janus Design items and because of that it went downhill for the install. We waited and waited for the bezel and mounting kit to arrive...We waited to the very last day. Obviously we couldn't wait any longer...On the day before SEMA, it took about 3 hours to get the plexi-glass filling to get the bezel to look decent. We took about 4 tries to get it looking satisfactory...It will be replaced soon with the Janus kit and the bezel will also be wrapped with CF Fabric.

To make matters worse, the touring has the DSP system...yup, DSP...and because I only had enough funds for one mono amp, I couldn't get my hands on a four channel amp prior to the convention. (I couldn't touch my vegas money,lol)...So we had to make due with what we had at that time. Currently, the touring has 11 speakers including the sub. What's working right now are my tweaters and separates in the front doors and also the sub. Once we install the multi channel Kicker amp, all of it will be operational.

Another big issue we came accross with was the fact that we didn't have enough time for the following:

AM/FM Radio
Imagine that. No radio...we didn't have the proper antenna to have the DSP to work with the new head unit.

Satellite Radio
I didn't subscribe on time, lol...

Bypassing
Damn car won't let me play around with destination changes while the car is running or will it let me play video while being mobile.

Dual Video Viewing
We didn't have enough time to have the head unit hook up with the flip down monitor. So now, the monitor is only running from its independent dvd player...by the way there's no sound coming from it too...

Steering Wheel Control
Since we didn't have time to set up the PAC module, the steering wheel buttons don't work.

MSN Traffic
I didn't subscribe to it either, lol...

What does work are the following:

Bluetooth
Navigation
SD Card Play
USB Drive Play
Ipod Play
Independent Video Play on the head unit (with audio too, woohoo!)
Independent Video Play on the monitor (no audio, boohoo!)

and last but not the least...Despite the missing 6 speakers, the acoustics of the car sounds fabulous!!! I can't wait when we rewire the whole audio setup of the car! It'll sound even much better!!! (Yes, I have to eliminate the damn DSP so I can get it to work the way I want it to)...

Enough of the babbling for now...

and on with the pics!!!! =)

and of course, i had to make a splash screen to rep ED!!! =)

Big shout out to my buddies who helped me! Hubert, Gil, Mikey, and Johnny!

More to come as this build comes to a completion!

I'm open to suggestions and critique especially from the gurus of this sub forum...please be gentle though as I am just a newbie in this department =)...

it's really nothing. i mean its got a head unit with a lot of options. i just wanted to maximize on it. the ice god of all tourings though is where you should hitch a ride with. that would thaichi's! my grocery getter is no match to the time, money, blood, sweat, and tears that was invested in his interior!

What's your next step on this setup?

what i would like to do if i had the extra cash now is to redo the trunk. make a false floor made of plexiglass that can slide out hiding the amps, ps3, and other components. also, i'd like to create a custom box to hold to 12 inch w3s. there are two separates that are ceiling mounted which i would like to replace with two 12 inch monitors.

Joe,

Nice set-up! Do you hit your head on that monitor, when your playing a movie with Enzo in the back? :p

Probably would have kept the OEM double din Navigation and painted the rear drop down screen tan to match the headliner, but clean install none the less. Is the trim panel around the front screen carbon?

LOL! You crazy Marshall =P...Actually surprisingly, I don't. My boy made sure when he installed the thing it was still half a foot away from how i lay my head on the headrest area. But it does cover my whole rearview mirror angle of the back...thank god for side view mirrors. Haha!

I'm far from being a purist, but I do try to keep things OEM whenever possible. Thing is even the MKIV Navi for the E39 is outdated with the stuff I needed from my head unit. As for the screen, I'm keeping it black because down the road the headliner and the rest of the interior will be in tune with a black theme =)! Yes, the bezel around the H/U is wrapped with CF Fabric.

Thanks for the compliments!
