Race Precision does it again! With its much success through their air scoop program, RPi has expanded it's horizons by letting the E46M be able to breath more!

How do these scoops attain such added HP?

Stated by Eloy...

The stock intake system is based on vacuum. The stock air intake sucks in cold air as the entire system is sealed. The problem is when people install what we call "hot air intakes" on their cars, the ecu generally does two things. Air/fuel mixture gets more rich and ignition timing is reduced causing a loss of power. This is often overlooked as the cars "feel" faster because with an induction intake, the engine sound is louder. We use a ram air method to "ram" more cold air into the factory intake ducts. This allows us to pressurize the air and force it through the stock panel filter.

With added software...

both the ESS software and the Discovery Auto tunes will work well with the ram air scoops. Without software, your comp will store "increased airflow" codes in the history. As far as I know, the Discovery tune was done with the RPi ram air scoops so it was tuned specifically for it. Great combo!

Euro Dyne was given the go signal to introduce this RPi innovation by initiating a group buy!

Regular retail price will be jotted down at $129 a set + shipping with insurance. But if you decide to be part of the first ten, it can be yours for only $97 + shipping with insurance!!!

What are you waiting for? Time to add your name onto the list! After that, PM or email me your address so I can calculate the shipping charges for you. Also, include your paypal address. I will then send you an invoice through paypal! Once we hit 5 paid buyers, I will initiate shipment of the products!

Let the frenzy begin!

Expect 8whp+ @ 70mph. In most cases, you will get a historic code logged for "increased airflow" but its still within the stock parameters so there is no CEL. During diagnostics, it will show in the codes though.

No, but it does help.

2. how much does software run?

The package price for the scoops+tune is $565

3. Can u use this with your existing panel airbox/filter?

Its designed to be used with the stock air filter box. Its not to say, it wouldnt work on other aftermarket intakes though.

Additional questions:

1 - Adding the scoop will it void warranty.
2 - How many colors does it come with?
3 - How much more for customer color?
4 - What code(s) will it show up when you take your car in the dealership for maintenance?
5 - What's with $97 price tag? Either make it an even round # like $90 or $95... $97 is so odd... but on the other hand Jo is an odd guy :laughhard:

Getting the scoops by itself is it worth doing this mod or it's better to do both scoops and software?

Getting the scoops by itself is it worth doing this mod or it's better to do both scoops and software?

your ECU now is currently programmed with the car's stock form...whenever you "tweak" the engine, parameters change. i'm not suggesting to retune your car every time you get a new engine mod...be moderate...

what i usually do to my cars is i bundle up all my engine mods and then add in software...

but to answer ur question, yes it would be better to add software when you do ANY engine mod to be in sync with your new parameters....

jo will you be carrying these all the time after the sale? gotta work up the money to get headers, exhaust, and software that way once everythings all set up i can just pick these up from you

Laidback
10-27-2008, 09:20 PM
My 2 cents...

Get the scoops ...here's from experience and testing with this mod...with or without software the scoop will work and your stock software will adapt (as BMW gives the stock software a little bit of room to adapt) if you decide to put headers then you should get software...intake and exhaust? no need as the stock software can handle it...

Here's the beauty of the RPI software IF you decide to upgrade your mods from scoops to headers, cams, exhaust and what not you just bring it back and RPI will flash it according to your mods...

Alot of people have this common mistake and still are running stock software with hefty mods "let me put all the mods first and then drive the car" and save up for software later... WRONG, by doing or going this route it can potentially hurt your engine as A/F ) air and fuel ratio will change (this is especially with headers)...I'd say get the RPI (original) scoops on your M3 (cheapest mod for the power it delivers)...

For $97 shipped sign me up!

I've just ordered my SE panel filter + SE air duct (8whp-10whp)+ RPI scoop(8whp @ 70mph+) would finish off the intake setup.
Now that looks like a total of 16whp to 20whp for these three combo!

so, again have a question.

If I plan on going headers, would I need scoops?

If I plan on going headers + new intake, would I need scoops?

I have an exhaust already, what else would I need to add to a complete, simple, engine mod?

Is it usually, intake, (air in) headers, air THROUGH, downpipe (air down so it isnt restricted), cat converter, (non restrictive air flow) and then exhuast, (non restrictive) air flow out?

what is this "SE panel filter + SE air duct " that marq is talking about?

edit, you say I do not need the software if I just get the scoops as my stock software can handle it, but it is highly recommended. If I am planning on the headers, should I get the software after the headers?

If i get the software with the scoops, an I add headers later, would I have to buy a whole new software (500$+) again? or can i just get an "update" on the software?

edit 2....would I be able to opt out on shipping and save? as I am so close and see you on thursday meets?

plus next week I plan on going to pasadena to train some managers and such at a store over there, isnt that on the way sort of or is my bearings completely off?

Thanks MarqE46!!! We need 2 more guys!!! =)

sweet!!! So I got the SE air filter & SE air duct from EAS today, which I just ordered yesterday. First impression, you can definitely tell the throttle response and power improvement throughout the entire powerband. Now with these RPI scoops for atleast another 8whp or so on highway speeds should be a double KO punch. 2 more!! cmon fellas dont keep us waiting :)

Seems like the throttle response has improved from a roll along with my SE panel filter and SE Air duct and spins to redline easier.

My stealth-ish intake system is now complete. Thanks for hooking a brudah up!!

I got mine in, and I tried to do a real comparison before and after.

I did some 80 MPH pulls in 6th, 5th, 4th, & 3rd w/o the scoops, I then did the same runs after the install, and to be honest I really could not feel much of a difference. But giving RPI the benefit of the doubt, I would say that the cars feels faster. Also, the more I drove the car and played with the accelerator the faster I thought it was. I was probably talking myself into justifying the $100 I spent. =)

I then did a nice 2nd gear run from about 30 - 100 MPH while entering the 118, and the car was fast. I kind of drive like a puss day to day so even a normal run in the 'M' would win fast to me. :D I do have to say that the car seems to all of a sudden accelerate faster between 40 - 70 MPH, but it could just be me. :dunno:

What you felt was real, improve throttle response and fast acceleration , as I was in the same situation as you before (i was one of the critics about this product) but we did a side by side comparison and dyno and the RPI scoops just pulls away...the best way is to run stock for stock and stock against a RPI scoops...this is the best alternative for CAI as no air coming in is spared it just goes thru jmho...

Also known as a placebo effect...but what I love about RPI is that they back up their goods with dyno numbers...and if a design decreases power, they go back to the drawing boards to perfect the flaws...these sheets of formed metal may look so simple and is mocked for the cost...but the majority never realizes that it takes a lot of time and money for the R&D that RPI puts out...

In conclusion...you should bring your e46 to the toys for tots event at VF this weekend...remove the scoops for the 1st run and then put em back on for the 2nd...=) you'll see...:D

welll besides the small wheel hop i get at the beginning of acceleration from a stop, i think i have noticed a bit of a punch when gunning it @ higher speeds. 60-70. Semi tested it, @ 60-70 in 4th 5th and 6th and even in 6th i have a bit more response in movement. Again it could be the placebo effect that everyone talks about, but if the numbers add something, and it isn't in the throttle, then its still adding something
