have you tried making this in Illustrator? as a small vector file exported as gif, may eliminate the dead pixel look, and give a more transparent look...

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I don't have Illustrator and I'm super n00b with the animated gifs.
Where's the post-work (PS) station, Staaaack? :p
Greenxeyezz what other tips do you have that I can learn from? Any tips appreciated.

Well it looks like you are using PS for the sigs. I havent used that program to make animated gifs, but have you tried to make a animated gif using the background as TRANSPARENT. if you have, when you make text, watch what it does when you save as a gif, in preview against a dark background, if you are getting jaggies (pixelation) you may have to work with the compression or the way its saving it.

I didn't originally think of that. I'll work with it a little, esp if I'm planning to make more stuff like that. I don't think that the actual smilieys will be an issue though.
Thanks!

I think if it's an "outter glow" you'll always have the pixelation. I was trying something different other then the alternating colors on the text.
