WTB: 1999+ BMW - $8k max

(Helping a friend out - not for myself)

My friend is looking for any type of BMW 1999+ maxing out at $8k.

She said her top picks are X5 & X3 (which is rather impossible for that price) but does like the 5 series.

Good condition, low miles (if possible) and no color/combo discrimination - she'll take anything. She's located in San Diego.

She was recently in a crash that totaled her last car so she wants something safe.

If she can't find a BMW she'll take any other SUV make in the same price range.

Help please :)

ps. I could look on AutoTrader but call me crazy I'd rather have someone's word on it that I know - or somewhat know. :)

In the national CarMax database, there appear to currently be only 3 BMW cars under $12K.

A 1998 740il (86K miles), a 1998 318ti (93K miles), and a 2001 BMW 330 Ci (118K miles)

Find a nice e36 M3, circa 1995, for that budget, or 1999 323i.
