Anybody rollin Toyo T1R on a RWD (preferably BMW)?

Curious to know their thoughts on noise, wear (how many miles) and wet weather feel (driving in rain).

Please, first had experience need only reply, I can google what "you've heard."

I'm thinking of going to 285.30.19 in the rear on a 19x10 but heard 285 rub bad like sex with no lube.

Thanks in advance....

was running ps2's, but picked up a set of the original pilot sports from a guy who bought them for his m3, but they were too big. Couldn't pass up the price, and now that i have them on the car, actually like them better than the ps2s.

Must have a stiffer sidewall, turn in is much crisper with the ps v ps2.

T1Rs
275-30-19 and 245-40-19
Hamann PG3
Compared to GY F1 GS-D3 on 18s stock wheels

Turn in more crisp
Side to side transition very neutral
Seems to have a quite stiff sidewall but pressure is up a bit and profile is down compared to the GS-D3
Noticibly more firm ride
Very quiet
Handling has transformed to very neutral. Cornering limits raised significantly.
Traditional "push" is essentially gone.

I must say that I cannot attribute the above positive changes to tires alone as other factors have changed from the GS-D3. Overall, I am impressed with these tires and at this point would go for another set if the rest of their life is as good.

Tires are new so can't assess wear and no rain so wet handling is yet to be determined. Noise as the tire wears to be determined.

Have you gone insane Chris? Not much comparison there. The RA1's stick like glue. Not good for snow or rain, and they only last about an hour, but I don't know why (other than $, snow, rain) you'd use anything else.

Some months ago I purchased BF G's all around (g-force). I'm pleased with them. On my previous 5 Series, I went from S03's to KUHMO ECSTA MX's and could not notice a difference (both on the track and off). I think the MX's are a great tire, and very affordable too.

Your best bet is this (http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/30029.pdf) but you need to use 235/265's or 265's all around...

Just to report back.

Rolling

255.35.19 front
285.30.19 Rear

Toyo T1R.

First impressions:

Quiet. Even on wet roads. This was surprising.

Grip is decent. I see the DSC light flash a bit more on hard acceleration and or cornering more so than I did with Yokohama Advan Sport, Goodyear GSD3 and Michelin PS2. She holds on all fours tho, nothing freakin me out- yet.

New suspension is on so still trying to work out what is affecting which ie is that road noise from the suspension or from the tires? Seems mostly the suspension. I am continuing to dial her out.

I'm dumped not tucked, but no gap. No rubbing in rear with the 285 fatties. No rubbing up front with the 255.

So far so good.

I'm still not as confident on them as I was with GSD3 or PS2. So far, this is only something in my head (conservative) and somewhat cold weather caution. Sun has been out, weather has been dry- so pushing her more and more as I get time.

Overall- Still on the fence

I have 12k miles on a set of Sumitomo HTR Z III's in 19". So far, I'm very happy with their overall level of performance, which I deem surprisingly close to that of the PS2's that they replaced and to the Bridgestone S-03's and S-02's that preceded the Michelins. The Sumi's have a very good, consistent and predictable level of grip and steering response, if perhaps not quite to the nth degree of the PS2's. I had the car aligned when these tires went on, and with that they are extremely stable and true-tracking at high speed. The only mild caveat is that they are not as good in the wet as I hoped for (and expected based on what I heard) and a far cry say, from the absolute confidence inspired by the S-02's which were by far the best tire in the wet of the five different tires that have been on my M5.

-You might want to consider reversing your choice. The T1-R has a lot of tread block squirm under the heavy loads one experiences on the track. It's fine street tire though, as one doesn't encounter such loading on the street.

I hear ya on that, but if I'm going to destroy tires, I prefer to do it to the T1R, as I don't care to keep them.

I'm rookie status, so first half day is:

"Head down the straight, get up to 60 then slam on the brakes- do you feel the abs kick in:rolleyes:" Do this, 15 times

Then do cones, and "learn" to watch ahead as they raise flags when they want me to skip a cone.

More rookie stuff....

Then lunch.

Then half day on track, with instructor in tow, learning the lines.

Figure, the tires will still out-preform the driver > me.

PS2 Report:

Nothing really new to report- for premium priced rubbers.

It has been 3 years since I last had these.

255 and 285 fr/rr respectively. These are much bigger than the Toyo 255 and 285. Fortunately still no rear rubbing. Can't say the same with fronts at my current ride height. Reducing spacer width to compensate.

DSC doesn't flash as much.

Great in rain.

Cornering feels very confident: wet & dry. I am wondering if some of my cornering concerns were due to the T1R sidewall- these seemed to spring out at unpredicted times. Michelin- totally planted, always predictable.

Will reduce rear damper setting to see if any difference (when I did the same while on T1R).

Quiet tires.

Thank gawd I found em for a good price.

I did take my spacers off. She now tramlines like a mofo. Maybe my front tire pressures are high- cold pressure 38lbs.
