So ever since i got my car, i always felt the shifting on the e39 felt kind of akward. I did the CDV delete and it felt much better. Got the ZHP knob and it felt even better. NOW... i finally decided to do the 545i shift lever in the e39. With the lever and zhp knob it should reduce shift throw by about 40%. Ordered the parts today. I heard its a must... and i felt the same way after driving a friend's e39 with the short shifter.

I bet it does! I was gonna go with the Evo 3 and dssr but i couldnt justify paying over $300. The 545i lever will do for now.

BTW, what do you think if i paired up the e60 shifter with the dssr. Does the rod make that much of a difference?

Ive heard good stuff about the E60 but you have to bend it iirc ...the dssr is a great add on, it stiffens the shifter (no play) i would look into it...

Did you change out the selector rod? Try the DSSR like Chris mentioned.

Really? Dang...I was thinking about swapping the Z4 shift lever into my 545i. The throw seems kinda long, unless it was even longer in the E39, I don't know.

The shifter from the Z4 3.0 fits. The Z4M's doesn't. :( I loved that car when I test drove it.

The stock e39 shifter is long and sloppy. The 545i is a cheap fix, feels better and a lil notchy. But i will probably try the evo3 later and a DSSR later

I havent seen the 3.0, is it shorter?

Yes love the Z4MC but am at a crossroads rigght if i would keep her or go a different route...The shifter from the Z4 3.0 fits. The Z4M's doesn't. :( I loved that car when I test drove it.

The 3.0 shifter is shorter than the 545i shifter and I believe the Z4M shifter is shorter than the 3.0 shifter. It won't fit in the 545i. I saw that in a thread somewhere a while back, don't quote me on it.

The Z4M is a blast to drive. Me and my salesman buddy took an 07 on a "spirited" test drive. It was so responsive, it was crazy. The only downside to that car was, I didn't have much shoulder room inside.

What are you thinking about getting to replace her if you do sell it?
