Alot of enthusiast like to check their used oil after an oil change to get some proper data on the wear and tear on the engine... Blackstone Labs is what people normally use...

Many times. I'm mixing Mobil 1's and getting great results - I wouldn't consider something like that w/o a UOA.

I look at aluminum, iron, lead, copper, chromium, tin (engine metals, lower levels are better) first to get a snapshot of the engine's health. Other materials are listed but most are additives in the oil. TBN tells you how well your additive is working (a higher level is better). My last UOA at 6,322 miles showed:
Aluminum 4
Iron 14
Lead 4
Copper 4
Chromium 0
Tin 0
TBN 5.0
The Blackstone lab report gives unit averages (test results averaged out) for your car/engine. For the S62 motor, oil change intervals are fairly short and oil types usually premium synthetics, so one would expect generally very good to excellent wear numbers as unit averages. Unit averages for the E39 M5 are:
Aluminum 5
Iron 21
Lead 8
Copper 6
Chromium 1
Tin 1
TBN 3.8
So, my results are very good as compared to unit averages. This particular oil change could have easily been extended another 3k miles.
My current mix is 4 qts Moblil 1 0W-40, 1 qt Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40 and 1 qt Mobil 1 EP 10W-40 (no longer made but I bought 3 6-packs when I found out it was being discontinued). The makeup oil is M1 0W-40. This mix is obviously working well in my car. The one thing I do is to use an BMW LL-01 approved oil as opposed to another BMW certification like LL-98 or LL-04...there are many choices in the LL-01 category. YMMV for any oil of your choice, so do at least one UOA to see if that oil is working well in your motor.

Bart what can you recommend in replacement of the M1 since their not producing it anymore?

I'll use two qts of the High Mileage 10W-40 oil when I run out of EP, with the rest of the fill and the makeup oil still being the standard M1 0W-40. The EP and HM oils are quite close in formulation from what I can see, so I feel very confident the wear rate should be close to identical to my current mix.

Thanks Bart, i will also ask around ansd see what others mix it with...
To all what's being discussed here is very interesting as we have been trying to get this oil and the wear and tear of the engine and Bart has been on the for front of this case study...:)
