I actually own the small Sandro Chia model, which is quite well done, but obviously won't be to everyone's taste.

But yeah, I would never even consider making a BMW a real life "art car."

To each their own, I guess.

I also wonder if they received approval from the original artist to use that design on their car. In any event, kind of bizarre and seems like something could have been lost in the translation...

For educational purposes only:

BMW M3 GTR - The Thirteenth Art Car by Sandro Chia

A beautifully detailed 1:18 scale model representing the thirteenth BMW Art car; a M3 GTR. A tradition started in 1975 and continues to this day with legendary artists from around the world using a BMW as a canvas for their creative ideas.

Every artistic aspect of the originals has been captured in order to create perfect pieces of art in miniature.

Sandro Chia's designed the 13th BMW Art Car in 1992. "People look closely at cars," he said. "The one I have painted here reflects their gaze. Like a mirror, it confronts the people who look at it."

The model is a limited edition and is mounted in a clear acrylic display case and a 50 page book documenting all the the artist's ideas behind their unique creation their own particular BMW Art Car.

I would do it....

but the car would have to be parked in my house.

It would be an art piece rather than a car to drive around in.

I love it tho. It would look awesome in a museum or something.

Here's the model of the Sandro Chia art car that I have in my office. I like it. Again, I would never do it to a life size car. But, no harm in having a M3 GTR model...

no. only because i'd feel guilty driving it.

if i had an extra car laying around though, of course! (it'd have to be an e36 modeled to be the original tho)

EDIT: like the one syco just posted
