Question about this. Does this void the warranty if you get it installed? My friend swears it does and im really interested in getting this done. Having no nav sucks :(

some more...the nav screen is whited out, my fault. see if I can some more tomorrow.

The voice commends are great. Don't really have to take your eyes off the road and fiddle with the thing. It blootoothed in a minute.

Installation looks great, Janus kit is the best way to go. The Kenwood is a good unit, and the traffic updates are great. I just wish there was an option to pay monthly for the traffic updates rather than to get the traffic for free along with the commercials... Yes that is right, this unit will display commercials on the screen when the traffic tuner is in use. It is a trade off for sure, but at least when you turn off the traffic feature the commercials also disappear.

Thank you. I think the banners are a small price to pay for free lifetime traffic update. They only come once per session and two clicks and they are gone.

They all come discount codes if you need their services. :D

Plugged my stick in the USB port the other day and watched some downloaded movies. :D

It sounds like it is not so bad if it only coms up once and then goes away. The one I installed left the shop before I had a chance to get used to the new traffic feature and see how bad the commercials were.

Start the car. Only when you go to Nav. Small banner pops up. Two clicks and it's gone. Dosn't come up for the rest of your trip.

You can't do both? Never....:drive2:

The problem with watching movies while you're driving is that it slows down your LEO reaction time...

You need to give yourself enough time to slow down, buckle your seatbelt, finish your text, and get out of the carpool lane before they catch you.

just got this double din installed in my car today. didn't get much of a chance to play with it, so how do you like the audio quality? will post pix up tomorrow

edit: btw did you get the steering audio control to work too? or is there a special adapter that i have to buy and install as well?

Jay J

Yeah they should make a cable adaptor to make the steering wheel controls work...
Audio quality is much better with an external 5ch...

Like to clarify. The 500 included installing the DD, two amps, four crossovers and replacing ten speakers. Really not a bad deal.

here's how i did my setup

Aftermarket equipment always sounds superior to OEM. Upgrade options are pretty much limited by your budget, imagination, and how extreme you want to go. I'm itching to finally install a 2DIN in my E39 this summer. Glad you're enjoying the install. :D

Slwdrvr

yeah most definitely. good luck with your choice of upgrade! still deciding if i want to upgrade with amp and subs.. cause right now my stock system sounds pretty damn good already.. but i will definitely think about upgrading the system when the time comes to it.

Hi!
Janus design do make some nice products from the feedback from those who use and have them! was very nearly tempted myself for my E39 too!

BimmerE39, here's my setup I've opted for as I didn't want to spend the cash on modifying my airbox. It's a interim solution as I'm working on a concept for us E39 owners as we speak ;)

http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr183/DennisCooper/BMW%20Products/E39%20Connects2%20Dual%202DIN%20Fascia/DSC00162.jpg

This fascia 'tilts' the double DIN head unit so that it's rear lower edge 'clears' the top of the cabin airbox, so no mod required. The downside is, in the cabin the front top edge of the head unit protrudes out by an inch. Not really a problem for us high end modifiers, but the BMW purists run around like headless chickens proclaiming the end of the world is nigh as it doesn't look oem anymore! That head unit which wierdly isn't available in the USA, is the Alpine iXA-W407 BT. Diskless, touchscreen highly specced and also has a built in Parrot bluetooth phone kit to further cut down on extra boxes needed. I'm happy so far, but once I work out a few things I'm doing, I'll let E39 owners all around know the deal ;)

Cheers, Dennis!
