MINI draws an interesting crowd. People get interested in MINI's for different reasons. And there is not as huge a volume to begin with, compared to, say, a GTI, for example, although that is changing.

LOL, that is sooo true, i always like cars that typical teenagers dont, but purist machines...I hate having the same car as everyone and their mama (sti, wrx, evo, etc)... A turbo'd AWD mini may be fun though! haha, but yeah, I hate the new mini's (r56's) they are wayy to big and tall and have ugly lights ... Well in december when I get back we should definitely get together and get your car tuned and share insight on the car and go cruise, i might get the cam when im back or swap out my springs as i dont like the eibachs, i think they must be softer than stock...

R53 platform is pure sex which can only be recognized by true drivers... heel toeing is a breeze and the driver always feels in control... hopefully no one else catsches on....

Hey me too. I wouldn't even consider it. Then I was test driving GTI's, but compared to the MINI, the R32 and GTI are heavy. The handling of the MINI is without reproach.

Light weight is definitely refreshing.

I'm still getting a little used to the torque steer, but it's nothing like what I have experienced in other high horsepower front drivers, it just means you have to use the steering wheel.

If the power is smoothly applied there should be little to no torque steer at the WOT... Its actually quite amazing how there is little torqu steer from it... You can thank the Transmission being located in the middle for that, and equal length half-shafts...

How do you compare / contrast the likes and dislikes of the R53 and e46 M3, and what year R53 did you have?

it was a 2002 with 15% alta reduction supercharger pulley, full supersprint exhaust, alta larger intercooler, alta cai, detroit tuned bypass valve, 22mm rear sway bar

the cost of mods compared to cost of mods to an m3
the nimbleness

I got the dual sport chrono pack, which I love, so no navigation on my car, but I have heard the navi is not so good. I just use a Garmin Nuvi.

Dang, tough luck buddy! I say you get another one! Ive seen a 2004 s with 70,000 miles for 10 grand! Just get an engine rebuild kit, throw in headers, exhaust RMW tune, RMW cam, Water.meth kit, and youll have a mini as fast as your e46m3!

I am working on getting full exhaust and coilovers right now then after those I'll get a s/c kit and bbk

I will do the 2.0L stroker kit, TVS S/C, RMW Head, RMW Cam, Re-tune, water meth kit, then coilovers... prob this summer ill have the coilovers and cam and or water/meth kit on... the final product should yield about 370whp

Damn, you guys have me all thinking about cars and stuff... now im debating whether to get a 944S2 instead and bore it out to a 3.2L 4 banger, have 12:1 compression, headers and a head with a tune and have an N/A track monster with 350+hp in a super-light car (2,250 lbs), and just get coilovers with the M030 suspension and 928 s4 brakes... wow, it would be damn near unstoppable! Comparable to a 997 gt3 in the all out track performance department! prob cost me a good 20 grand when its all said and done though...

WELCOME! I was thinking maybe in the future I would get the r56 JCW cause I heard there is massive potential with the upgraded turbo and components from the "S"... I dunno the r53 is the most connected even though the r56 is faster out o f the box and uses a BMW engine while the r53 has a tritec single cam chain driven...

Hey thanks myke. actually the only reason we ended up getting the r56s was b/c my wife was commuting so much and it averages 34mpg every tank!! We originally bought the an r53 from carmax and returned it when for the life of me I couldn't avg 25mpg...later found out that was normal:( returned it under their 5 day no questions asked. But I do miss that no lag feeling of the supercharger.

hopefully soon there will be a reliable tune for us r56's and be able to put out 230 with just a tune and exh.

25mpg is NOT normal... I get 35 on the fwy with my mods and i have a broken bypass valve... 24 on the streets is normal though

Nahh no rear brake upgrade, you can though, but I heard it throws off the brake balance, I saw Johnny's car from Johnny's auto clinic at the Irvine meet yesterday we were talking, he has the same front bbk as I do but they just ordered rear BBK a different brand, they said they'll let me know how they like it and functionality, etc.
