My New Tattoo

I put this on facebook but i promised Chris i'd post pictures here on the forum for everyone to see. I spent a little over 5 years researching, watering my roots and saving enough for this venture.


All regional patterns were researched by Amang-Red: Elle Festin of Tatak Ng Apat Na Alon (Mark of the Four Waves) Tribe. Trusted Tribe Tattooist is Seymour Kaniho from Black Wave Tattoo in Los Angeles, CA.

1. After all the research, the first step was to get drawn on... This was the original design but was changed during the process of being tattooed.

2. After the drawing stage, i made an appointment when Seymour would be available, as he is one of few trusted tattoo artists from the tribe. Here is the outline after I got home and washed it.

3. After the outline, i came back the next day to get a little bit of shading done... Here is a shot of the tattoo partially shaded.

4. Here's another shot of the partial shading after i got home and washed it... BTW, stop staring at my nipples :shifty:

5. Here's the final product with all the shading DONE! Still planning to add a few more things but it won't happen for a few months i'm sure. Too many other projects coming up i need to save for.

If you're interested in getting a Traditional Filipino Tattoo... let me know and i'll refer you to the right people. I'm not talking about simple baybayin/Alibata tattoos... These kinds of traditional style tattoos take time and dedication to know where you come from and the people we really are as Filipino's.

as a disclaimer: These tattoos have actual meanings that are specifically made for the person wearing them. Each pattern and design depict their own personal stories of their lives and ancestry, NOT YOURS!!!

make sure it has meaning to you... or else the pain isn't worth it.

The most painful pots for me were right around the nipple :shifty: and lower chest area. A little on the clavicle cause of the bone :raspberry:

Unfortunately i can't... the meaning of each symbol has particular meaning and symbolism. I can tell you in general they are designs direct regional symbols found in cave drawings. The meaning of the symbols and the tattoo as a whole is reserved your kin...

do it bro... you can start working on your questionnaire now if you want... lemme know and i'll forward it to you. it took me a looonnggg time to fill it out cause i wanted to be as accurate as possible.

The tribe charges a certain design-fee depending where you want the tattoo... A fellow member here on the board (Dino aka m3monkey) also has an Apat Na Alon tattoo on both his leg's from the knee-cap down. You can ask him how much they charged for the design fee of that specific area.

The tattooist is a whole other fee based on per hour. Mine was up there in prices since it's over 9 hours of work not including the design and drawing time.

After that, The tribe designer will recommend an artist for you to go to. Its up to you.
my beautiful pain was 4 sessions. once a month. about 8 hrs each on the chair. drive to and from SD. =) But I love every moment of it!

i'm glad bro! it's always a good thing to know where you come from. Even for those who have never been back to Philippines before or haven't been home in awhile. Ask your family and hopefully they can help with the questions also.

Just take your time and don't rush it. You want things to be as accurate as possible :D
