As a testament to its success in starting the four-door coupe movement, the Mercedes-Benz CLS is nigh on its second version, yet competitors have only recently begun to crowd the room. With the Audi A7 about to gain membership in the club, BMW couldn't hang back, so it has reportedly slapped a sales date on the 6 Series Gran Coupe concept: it'll be here in 2012.
Rumored for the summer of 2012 by German publication Automobilwoche, that puts its introduction a year behind the next-generation 6 Series. Engines are said to be a mix of gas and diesel, and BMW evidently spoke of a potential hybrid application. Perhaps most importantly, design cues such as the frameless doors and LED lighting will be carried into production. Those trick exhaust tips, however, not likely.

Official?
The fantastic BMW Concept Coupé Gran came to Munich. Exclusive and unique in Europe, the concept car shown in the BMW world. Although there was a spectacular study in the International Trade Fair Beijing Motor Show in late April a series of professional journalists exclusively ever been shown , but the general public had that yet live to Gesichtbekommen . A revelation for the general public "was therefore on the evening of 22 July 2010 in the auditorium of the BMW world instead .
Anders Warming , head of BMW design, exteriors , presented on this occasion in front of the vehicle and its history. He outlined at the premiere of the vehicle in Munich, a small house and evolutionary history of innovation. A total of twelve days, ie until 3 August 2010, the BMW Concept Coupé Gran is in the BMW world exhibited at the Plaza.

Not feelin' the design of that grand concept at all! GT 5 series and this grand concept IMO are fail, IMO BMW should build a supercar that would compare to Ferrari's and Lambo's, now that people would want to see!

Not to be outdone by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide or Audi A7, BMW will reportedly be building a production version of the Gran Coupe concept that debuted at this year's Beijing Motor Show. It may be a late arrival to the growing segment of swoopy luxury sedans, but BMW will indeed poise the Gran Coupe to offer just as much in the way of technology and refinement as the lot of its competitors.
Based on the next-generation 6 Series, the Gran Coupe is set to launch sometime in 2012 and will share its powertrains with what we're seeing in the 5, 6, and 7 Series BMWs, including a possible hybrid variant. Naturally, the production Gran Coupe will slot between the 5 and 7 Series in terms of size and price, and if the overall design doesn't change too much, it'll certainly be an attractive addition to the BMW lineup.
