Nice Watch for a Decent Price?

Alright guys so im looking into buying a watch.. i have about 2000 saved up and i wanted to buy a Tag Heuer Carrera Tachymeter Chronograph.. but its a bit over my range as its about 3000+ for one.. so can you guys recommend me a pretty nice watch for around the 2000 range?

The new Tags are really nice. I'd say to try to hang in there, and get what you really want. You're 2/3 there.

If budget is really tight, you could consider used from a reputable seller.

Also, you might check out the Time Zone or other watch forums.

The problem with the $800 - $1500 range new, is you might be getting a quartz movement, and for pure enjoyment, collectibility and resale, it's nice to get a mechanical movement, IMHO.

Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer. You might be quoting retail though. And no one really has to pay full retail during a down economy on a luxury item, unless the item is ultra hot. So, do some searching and if you can get 20 - 30% off at a local store, then you will be able to buy it very soon. My guess is that at least 20% should be do-able with some reasonable effort, but I haven't owned a Tag in a long time.

Be careful about the typical online retailer though. Only buy from a reputable source, and make sure the serial number is intact, and that you immediately get it checked out by an authorized dealer. Not for the rookie buyer to do online deals, without big risk.
