In my E36, I have a UUC Evo 1 (Old School).
It's a little notchier than some of the other solution out there on the market, but the throw is short as hell. The g/f has the rogue engineering one with the weighted selector rod. The weighted rod makes going into gear a lot easier, nut the throw is not as short as the UUC kit.

... noobie bump a thread ...
Same question as the OP, which kit do you have (have you had) and how do you like it? I'm in need of a short throw set up.

Ok, after much reading (I've been sick for a couple days), I think I like the AutoSolutions kit. Who has this? Am I wrong?
Also, the AS guys warn against using a heavy shift knob because it will wear out the shifter sooner, does anyone have any experience in this? Or is this like: at the margin your shifter will wear out sooner...
The UUC one seems like it's not quite short enough ... but I'm not closed to that shift kit entirely just yet.

i believe its the polymer supporting the pivot ball that wears out prematurely causing the shift knob to rattle badly... B&M is also good but kinda hard to find especially for an E46 M3...

Feeling much better today thx :) (Dr set me up with some nice antibiotics, I usually go the green tea and miso soup route but it wasn't working so...)
Ok, premature wearing out = bad, so maybe I don't like that quite so much.
UUC looked not quite short enough when I was looking at a visual comparo pic, does it feel nicely shorter?
Anyone have the B&M one?

my buddy has B&M on his car and i have to admit i like it... better than my SSK... now, when you say "visually compare" were you talking about the physical length of the actual shift knob? for the most part, SSK reduce the shift throw about 20-30%. in my experience, i saw and felt the difference when shifting from 4th to 5th gear... without the SSK, i found it annoying to have to somewhat stretch my arm to make sure i go into 5th gear correctly...

On Amazon, you can order this one: "B&M 45126 Precision Sport Shifter" ... is that the one?
edit: and is that the full kit or will I need extra parts?

Believe it or not, I rather like the feel of the stock gear shift. It is "typical BMW" factory produced goodness. It is a bit vague, but there is a hefty feel, and a solid feeling when engaging different gears. It takes a deliberate driving style to use a BMW shifter. I'm hesitant to use any SSK. I did this on a previous car that had a completely infallible shift action, and after putting a SSK in that car, it ruined shift goodness of that car. So, I'm very hesitant to mess with what I believe is a good thing. Happy New Years all! :D

i do apologize for the late response... anyhow, i'm not quite sure of the part number listed @ Amazon. Try and google B&Ms website... you might be able to get the actual part number for your M3 just so theres no confusion 'coz they also have SSK for other cars.

^That was totally me going for the long shot that someone might just happen to know :p lol
I'm fairly certain it is ... looks the same, part number is the same, therefore, should be the same.
So I'm between the Dinan and the B&M ... heavilly leaning towards the B&M, just want to read a little more.
Yea, when I said 'visually compairing' I was looking at a picture with the lot of them laid out side my side; though thinking back, it's a picture on the internet  silly me, pictures can be anything.

lol... hey its all good... no harm in asking... and theres nothing wrong for trying to get as much feedback as possible to help you decide... incidentally, have you found a mechanic/shop who will install your SSK once you get it?

Yea, I've got one mechanic that I have most of my stuff done at. Also, a friend of mine is opening a shop w. some very good people so I could always go there as well.

thats good to know. i remember having a hard time finding a mechanic who will install my SSK for me. apart from being pricy, its also labor intensive...

I hear the RE one is shorter than the UUC and I thought the UUC was a little shorter than I wanted so now I'm stuck again.
I'm back to thinking maybe I'll just Dinan and call it a day 'cause I'm not after the really super short, just shorter.

They should.. Bent paddles or some sort of cantilever to reduce throw, perhaps a touch sensitive pressure plate lol.

I have an Autosolutions SSK 30% reduction. It's much more precise than the stock shifter. When I first started using it, the throws felt very short compared to stock. But now it feels like the throws could still be shortened so the 42% reduction version that they have may actually be pretty good. I got in on a group buy.

After installing many SSK's for e90/e92.... I think the Rogue kit is the most complete kit.
2nd best is AA... I don't need to say whose last.

I like my RE SSK Octane for the E46 M3. I've also heard the AS SSK is awesome though :)
As for e9x, the EAS e92 M3 has the Rogue and its amazing!
