View Full Version : Sticky 5th gear? >=[

When my car is cold or just being started up for the first time for the day, when I hit 5th gear, anytime after that, when I shift out of 5th, the spring that pushes my shifter back to center stays stuck. This means the spring on the left side is constantly pushing, but the one on the right is stuck, so my shifter keeps trying to stay on the 5th gear side.
SO annoying when trying to go into 3rd cause I have to put it into 3rd 'carefully' or else it slips back to 5th.

Anyone know how easy/hard it is to fix this?

Eventually, I'll get a SSK, but no money right now and I heard the install is kind of a bich cause you have to drop the tranny.... :(

Yea, after the car warms up....say....about 10 minutes or so....suddenly the spring will pop back and everything will be back to normal.

hmm one more question when you turn on your car in the morning do you let it warm up or you just start driving as soon as its on..
i know it should not really matter but you can help your self by just letting the car warm up. i think a good 15 or 20 min befor you drive it. just till you really get that fix.. cuz the problem can get bigger. that my advis, sorry cant help much.

I do let my car warm up, and then I stay below 3k until the car is fully warmed up.

But the funny thing is, even then, it's like, once I hit 5th, it will stick. It's just that if I warm up longer, it 'unsticks' faster.

I know I just need to replace that spring. Sigh. At least I get to do another DIY write up.

I would change the gear oil to something like redline synthetic, on doing the SSK you don't have to drop the tranny you can do it on top...hope this helps

Warming up is probably a good idea, but 15 to 20 minutes is a long time to wait.
