i have been waiting for two phones this year...the SONY XPERIA X1, and the BLACKBERRY STORM. and yesterday i was lucky enough to see them both in person and play around with them.
SONY XPERIA X1
PRO's= feels like a real phone(weight), work orientated crowd, cool keyboard, window's mobile, rare.
CON's= for some smaller than expected, $800 unlocked, ATT/T-MOBILE NETWORK

BLACKBERRY STORM

PRO's= VERIZON NETWORK cool wide display and user friendly, more mainstream crowd/less work orientated crowd
CON's= might be too light wieght, AVERAGE TEENAGER WILL BE ROCKING THIS PHONE
i dont mean to sound like a prude or anything, but for me the iphone kinda got old when i had about 7 or my cousins(all under 18) with the iphone, and what sucks, is that with the price differential, the blackberry storm would probably be the best bet between the two, but its an iphone competitor and so thus it will have a younger crowd, heck my younger sister is getting one [storm] for x-mas... and all she's gonna use it for is text/phone. but hey, the storm is a BAD muther Fer..... i would recommend it to anyone, for me the biggest plus is verizon as the network.
