Is flickr a FREE file sharing web site?

It's free section is limited to 100 uploads I believe. Flickr Pro costs $25 a year, but you get unlimited space, easy uploader application. You can unlimited groups which are very informative as well, plus it doesn't really degrade the photo quality - which is very important to some of us.

edit: you can also add your friends as contacts so when they upload new pictures, you can view them without them telling you :)
