Well, dates are announced now officially. April 22-24. So that means its time to start planning things out.
********SET IN STONE MEETING POINT/TIME********
4/21 Thurs -For those of us up north (Fort Collins/Loveland/Longmont), we can meet up along the way if we want off I-25 but we should make them quick, as to make it to the meeting point on time. Meet west side of Denver between6-630am, I-70 Morrison Exit #259. (see steps below to find) There is a Conoco gas station there we can all get topped off if needed and get some early morning snacks. Be at the gas station at no later then 630am so we can all gather and meet each other incase we havent yet and that way we can get off on the road close to 645. To see where this is...go to
http://maps.google.com/ and enter these coordinates and hit search maps ------> 39.697595,-105.207932 ;its a right once off the interstate then a left at the light that is about 1/8 mile up...go down about 1/4 mile or so and you will see the gas station on the right/HUGE park n ride lot on the left.
1030-11am Stop in Grand Junction for Lunch/Gas, meet up with Jim and whoever else in that area is joining him
---- Horizon Drive exit, Turn right and immediate left into the Shell station. Take up pump as you can and the rest form line and then park in back of the shell, or go across the street to Wendys for lunch.
1130-12p Leave GJ and head along the way...wont need gas until Beaver Utah (15 miles south of the I-70/I-15 juncture), and meet up with any Utah or whoever else Mfester's from that area. (arrive around 230-3pm) to Beaver (large gas station at first exit and on the right, next to Wendy's)
3-330pm Arrive/Leave Beaver for Vegas, meet up with PNW caravan. Large gas station at first exit and on the right, next to Wendy's.
5-530pm PACIFIC time, Arrive in Vegas (its about 3 or so hours from Beaver)
4/22 Leave Palazzo early like 9am and head to meet up with the local Mfesters at the M resort and then head to jean around 940 or so, arrive Jean at 10 meet up with the Socal caravan.
Please remember all times are tentative for arrival/departure locations. Time has been added to account for large number of participants/cars. As a caravan, if one person from a car needs to stop at a rest stop to take a pit stop, the whole caravan should stop as well as a courtesy.
******Pre-Mfest Meet at Bandimere opening weekend of Bandimere******
April 2nd - Denver Auto Show - 930-945am - meet in front of Pepsi Center box office/Bruans bar and Grill parking area. Will leave very close to 10am and roll into the parking garage at the convention center. Auto Show opens at 10am so best to get there early before the crowds. $10 entrance fee and I think $10 parking for 8 hours.
April 9th - Bandimere (we have a large group coming from e90post too, probably 10+ cars)
see thread here: http://www.mfestforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10253
April 17th: CU Sports Car Show - http://www.mfestforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10604 - we are meeting there around noon 30 or so.

New to ///M Fest, I might be down. Sounds like mostly E9x's going?? I don't want to be a slow poke with my E46;-) I am from Colorado Springs, anyone else from the Springs? Also, one of the editors of HH (Heavy Hitters) magazine is from C/S and is a friend of mine, he is the one that suggested I attend, he said he could try to do a spread on the CO cars...could be cool..
malloybmw
01-19-2011, 09:40 PM
Ya there will be a lot of new m3s but it will be alot of fun! I also have an e46 m3. You should join us. Who is your friend? I like HH a lot I think it is a great magazine. Do you read Euroberge?
baliano
01-19-2011, 10:16 PM
His name is Mike Landers. I have never heard of Euroberge. Are people bringing sig others? My wife is down for cars, but I don't want her to be the only ///M wife there.
malloybmw
01-19-2011, 10:43 PM
look up Euroberge on google its an online European car magazine thats done here in Colorado. Its free. Ya i believe a lot of people bring their gfs and wives. Cool thanks for the name. I have only read the last 2 HH issues but its really interesting. Between Dackz, and me we should be getting a group of abut 10 cars to go. We should put together a pre mfest meet so everyone can meet everyone. This will be my first time going but a couple people this will be their second.
baliano
01-19-2011, 10:47 PM
Thanks, if you put together a meet let me know, I would love to join. The more I think about this, the more fun it sounds! I will check out Euoberge. Do you think you could rally the troops and get pics/bios from anyone who is going to mfest from CO? I know Mike will want to build a story about the members/trip.
malloybmw
01-20-2011, 12:10 AM
Ya i think we could do that. Ill try and get pics and bios. That would be cool if he did a little piece on the colorado guys. I say we meet either beginning of April or March. Ya Euroberge is a pretty cool magazine. They focus on Colorados car culture.

01-20-2011, 10:31 AM
Sounds awesome Mike!! You wont be the only e46....trust me. And there will be TONS of older models and all differnet kinds of BMW's. Alot of us have 335's and are still going. Its not just for M's by any means.
As for a pre-mfest meet, we definitely need to. We will worry about that later but first weekend or 2 of April will probably work. We met at the opening day of Bandimere last year, had about 8-10 cars (I think all we 335's too) but that was a good time, its something we can throw around.
10 cars sounds about right so far, but Id say we could 12-13. Already we have alot more communication and planning this year then we did last year. The key will be to get registered and get your rooms booked ASAP once it opens up. They sold out of rooms last year, and Palazzo had to open up a new block of rooms thankfully. This year should be even bigger and who knows what they will do.
And as for the ladies coming along....bring em! Jim brought his last year, and if Alfred ends up coming his wife will as well, and if Vincent comes, his wife probably would to. Im sure there may be some others too (Matt and Sid are working on GF's to bring). She def wont be the only female there.
Lost of time between now and then. Final details of Mfest probably wont be announced till first week or 2 of Feb and then that is around when registration will start. What happens usually is everyone is a maybe or says yea, I really want to go, then when it comes down to it, half or less actually go. But no worries. Ill update the thread with the official #'s of who is in for sure as we get them in the first post.
I cant wait, is it April yet?
Oh yea, check out the thread links in post #2. We have a 100 post thread already in the e90post forum.

Since I'm a newbie to this whole MFEST deal and it will be my first time attending, (but I will be driving all the way from Charlotte, NC to Vegas AND back) I'm trying to find a caravan to ride with to Vegas. I'll be leaving NC Tuesday morning, the 19th, around 4am. Willing to meet within a 250 mile radius off of I-40 heading west. Can anybody help me out? and if so, can I get some details - here's my email address, or you can just shoot me a PM. but would really like to get involved with local caravans on the way.
Well, dates are announced now officially. April 22-24. So that means its time to start planning things out.
So far, from e90post.com forums, we have confirmed Me, Sid and Matt again. Now, who else is going??
The plan will be the same as last year, leave early Thursday morning and get into Vegas late afternoon. I will be coming back home Sunday this year though, as will Matt/Sid I believe. Anyway, we will keep this thread going and update as needed. For now, post up if your going!
1. David, E92 335i (Me, with co-pilot Grant tagging along again)
2. Matt, E92 335xi (with his dad and or lady friend)

To be honest, I would meet up with Texas guys. They will be getting onto 40 most likely near Albuqurque which runs through there. Im almost sure they are staying in Grants on Wednesday night, which is on I-40 itself. Ill pm ya to make sure but I would see where they are heading through Texas, its not near as much out of the way for you, its infact, on the way.

What time do the CO guys plan to take off to LV? Where do you typically meet and leave from? My cousin might fly out to do the drive with me and I need to coordinate logistics with him. I know it is early in the planning process, but a rough estimate of when/where would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That is awesome to see the Colorado Mfesters growing in numbers. I hope you guys get the opportunity to grow and build strength in relationships that will help carry you through to April. I highly recommend caravan rehearsals to prepare for the meet up at Barstow with the rest of the Mfesters. We anticipate there will be about 700+ cars. That will equal over 4 miles of cars traveling to Vegas so communication and anticipation of driving habits have to be coordinated and organized. just a little sum to keep in mind when you guys get together.
Colorado Mfesters FTW. :buttrock:

Do you know if we have to book our hotel through Mfest to register? My wife and I stay at the Venitian a few times a year and can get a room for a better price than the package deal.
HuperHann
01-23-2011, 10:53 PM
I'm not completely sure but we have had other members pull the trigger to early last year and secured their comped rooms at other hotels but they missed out on the camaraderie when all the Mfesters are in one location. Even thou the Venitian is just a hall way away from the Pallazzo sometimes that's just far enough away to miss out on some things, like the red carpet entrance to the club, or left behind on random trips or drives off of the strip or the VIP pass line is closed and then you have to wait with the rest of population of people to try to get in the club.
If it was up to me I would stay with the pack and not miss out on any opportunities because i hate for anybody to have this look on their face. :sadBye:

Hey guys the mfest crew just released some new info, they are going to have a drag strip event I believe friday night.
Dackz
01-28-2011, 11:59 PM
T shirts would be cool. Im not much for stickers anywhere on my car, the only one I have is the Mfest one on the upper left of the windshield and thats the one you get to park in the garage :)
As for the details announced....I will def do the drag strip, but wont do the track. Doing the track encompasses an entire day dedicated to the track. Id rather be able to go do the mfest thing then maybe go out to Hoover dam, get some group pics of whoever goes there, or something like that, then head back to the track for the raffle and such.
Hopefully its not as hot as last year. It was nearly 100 each day last year, totally sucked for heat.

Barstow is actually, IMO, where the fun really hits a crescendo and then goes to another level all the way to Vegas. Unless you actually find yourself lost in a sea of BMW's and the anticipation of the excitement of what is in store for everyone a few hours away while navigating a path shoulder to shoulder with Mfest members, now with a face, you won't know what your missing.
It will be worth driving that extra hour for a lifetime of memories. You guys already made the drive from Colorado, don't stop short and miss that Caravan of over 600 BMW's, you may not get the opportunity again.
Count me out of Barstow. That's halfway to LA from Vegas. However, going the long way through NM and cutting up to Vegas via the dam could be very nice. Photo op on the dam!
This will look Legit, do it.

I think the Drag is going to take place at night so you may find yourself being able to take advantage of both events. There will be more announcements to come so sit tight. Knowing Chris he will release them soon.

I am intending to attend, as long as it fits in with my schedule. Hopefully weather will allow the trip to be made on summer tires/wheels. :D
The first year I went I hit snow on the way back (left my winters on since I saw the forecast of snow before leaving), but last year was smooth sailing all the way there and back with summer tires.
The drive there was great and we picked up a few people along the way. The more the merrier.

If you have a paypal, you basically send money to someones email address. You will go to paypay and enter his email address into the spaces provided and plug in the amount of which you want to pay, whether it for 1 person, or whatever. It will be simple, you will see. You can use a CC on it even.
I dont expect any new toys for the car for Mfest. I have done basically all I plan for a while. I will however be getting my rims fixed (de-rashed and nicks filled in) so that way they look brand new again.

Jean is about 20-30 minutes south of the strip. Last year we met up at the M-resort in their parking lot to gather with the locals and those already in town to go meet up in Jean with the SoCal caravan. We had ~30 cars roll down there to meet with the group. Then we all got in line and did the guiness world record run for most BMW's in a line.
As for other drives, they had one Sunday afternoon to the Valley of Fire, but most people had left and gone home, we only had about 30 cars for that, but it was a blast. Wont be doing that this year though as having to drive home Sunday.
We also met up and left from the garage early Saturday morning to go to cars and coffee that was about 15 minutes from the hotel. That was pretty cool, but most people were super hungover or went to the track.
As for open bar...we did last year on Saturday night at Tao. Who knows for this year, but Chris will have something good I am sure.
And as for keeping gambling to a minimum....well, the more time we spend hanging out with the cars and Mfest crew and at the track, less time at the casino :) That was my plan last year. I only gambled on Thurs night when we got in. Bills gamblin hall here we come again!!!

Yeah, we'll for sure get a plan figured out when it gets a bit closer. But the long and short of it is, the weekend before mfest we are all going to opening day at Bandimere on Saturday. We did that last year and it was fun as heck. Then plan out the trip to Vegas, but the easiest meeting point is I70 and Morrison exit just into the hills. And meat super early there, in the 6am range.
Then we meet up with Jim and Christy in Grand Junction and anyone else that may be out there. Then meet up in Utah with hopefully the Chicago folks again.

And it doesnt matter if they drive or not...cost is the same. Now, does the other car keep up with all the BMW's though??? Thats the question......
Not to mention, on a drive we did at Mfest, ~30+ BMWs rolling along 'at the speed limit' :shifty: didnt get busted, but the Audi did......so when all cars are alike and one isnt...ya never know, lol. Just tell your Bro to drive his car out and to split the driving time with someone else to Vegas, and problem solved!

What you should do is tell your bro to drive out Wednesday, stay the night, and then he has a co=pilot already and they can split the driving or something??? He is just going to regret not driving....just an idea!
Twist my arm and I could be convinced of attending a "rehearsal". I've done but one M3 cruise w 4 others in December, and I had a lot of fun. As long as we can avoid gravel, sign me up for the last position -- great views from there! :eatpop:
Just hope this winter stays mostly mild so summer tires are comfy. I drove across the rockies twice in the past month, and both ways temps were under 20ºF. despite the sun.

I know Im not gonna make Barstow...it would require leaving the casino super early after a day of driving just to drive back, and chanes are I will be hungover too. The jean meetup location is only 20 or so miles south of the strip and an easy drive....I did that last year and plan on it again for this year.
Also, I emailed Viga and heard back from him, he is attending Mfest again this year! He is unsure of if he will be trailering his car out or if he will end up driving his car, so meeting up with him for our caravan is at the moment up in the air, but he will be there again so that is cool!
I'm probably not doing Barstow either. The spectacle will no doubt be something to see, but that's an extra 2 hours each way.

Here's what I've had done to my M3 so far.
Vorsteiner's- VRS vented race hood, GTS3 rear diffuser, VCSL bootlid
oem 19" wheels powder coated textured black
VMR VB3 19" CSL style wheels in hyper black
What I ordered last week.
Scorza exhaust with Ti tips from Oakville Motorwerks
DEPO headlights with the Aurora 60-led angel eyes
Carbon fiber 1 piece racing front lip
Can't wait for this stuff to get here! lol

WOW....that sounds awesome. Whats with the 2 sets of rims though? Race set, winter set?
That will all awesome though. I especially want to see those angel eyes. I just have PNP Lux H8 angel eyes...but they look great!
I was trying to get a certain look with my M3 plus I luv the CSL style wheels. So I bought those. I had some curb rash on my oem's and had them powder coated at SpecWheels in Commerce City. They did an outstanding job too. I have a third set of wheels... :o Like I said, I'm trying to obtain a certain look. If that makes sense.
I haven't tried any track days yet. Might do the sub frame reinforcement if I go down that road.

Oh nice. Im getting my rims de-curb rashed and straightened out at Woody's wheel works right now...one was bent from dodging a minivan and curbed pretty bad, the other 2 just some minor fixes and 1 is pristine. Its time to take the winters off here soon!!! :woohoo:
Hehe... Yea, it's getting close. I had to buy a new battery due to my baby sitting in the garage this winter time. I tried to keep the battery charged by driving on the good days but no luck. I went with the Mini battery which is about 11 lbs. lighter than oem battery (plus it's the CSL battery to boot). :)

Yes, the times and date are firm for the meetup, 6-630am 4/21. Remember, you gain an hour when you cross into Colorado from whatever state you come, so if you come from Nebraska it will be say 3am then in Colorado its 2am....same for Kansas. Then we gain another hour when we get to Nevada. Its exactly what we did last year, just with triple the amount of cars. Its literally the last exit on I-70 before you really get into the mountains. Again, the Morrison road exit. I updated the post to make it a little more clear where it is. Also PM me your cell # and Ill send you mine that way we can coordinate to make sure you are on time/how long we need to wait.
Sure hope the others make it! That would make this one huge caravan! We might be able to get bigger then Texas! :buttrock:

For those who went last year, did anyone have problems not running a front license plate? I am considering buying the tow hook LP holder but I really don't want to buy one unless it is absolutely necessary. Will one in the front windshield suffice? Cant he just leave 3 hours later?? And does he need to be there at 3pm MDT or PDT? 3PDT is only about 2 hours later then we will roll in, 3 perhaps at most. Correct me if I am wrong but we got there around 5-530 last year and hit rush hour dead on.
See if he will just wait...if we can get everyone at the meeting point at 630am, (in the first post I underlined, bold italized and said NO LATER then 630am so hopefully no later scraglers), then we get on the road around 645 easy and if they have all the contstruction done, then we should be there in GJ about 1030 or so I think.
Up to you, but I think leaving any earlier, especially 2-3 hours earlier when its already an early morning would be rough. Besides, we may be waiting on Viga and others points east that are already planning on being in Denver at 630. Id tell him to push his plans back 3 hours and roll out with 12-13 cars as opposed to 1 by himself.

Yea, it would be nice to miss rush hour but I think even shooting to have everyone at the meeting point at 630, we are going to end up having SOMEONE late. Id rather everyone plan on being there at 615 so we can leave at 630 but I already know someone will be late...it just always happens that way.
Jim, why does he need to pick someone up from the airport??? Its Vegas, tell him to get a taxi to the hotel for the person and they can just tool around until we get there. I mean, heck, have him pay the person back for the cab ride....to the palazzo from the airport will only be ~$25. And then all he has to do is check his bag with the staff and wait for us.
Without really speeding, Vegas is only about 10 hours from Denver. Maybe long luxurious stops at the fine eating establishments along the way are planned?

You will be surprised at how long it will take to fill up that many cars, get that many people bathroom stops and even wait in line to get some fast food (and only once, in Grand Junction for lunch) or get snacks. It only took us about 8.5 hours drive time last year, give or take 30 mins, but took us about 10.5-11 actual hours due to all this. Its good to get out and stretch and revive yourself from time to time.
Also, all times are simply estimates. We have Jim's # to alert him if we are arriving sooner or later. Last year we got held up to a degree due to the construction on I-70 in both the Glenwood canyon and the Debeque canyon and the canyon in Arizona.
Keep in mind this is a LOOONG group drive too. If someone in one car needs to relieve themselves at a rest stop along the way, then everyone stops. Thats why its a good idea to have walkie talkies as well. That or flash lights/honk/hand signals at least, and with 12+ cars, if the person at the back of the pack doesnt have communication, then they need to certainly alert the closest car with comminucation to alert the lead car, and everyone else will follow suit. It worked pretty well for us last year.
I cant wait though, rolling along last year was a blast and this year I am sure will not dissapoint either.

No doubt, I am flying my wife in and pre-paid for a limo, ordered an early check in for her as well . I will be there by 6:15-6:30, but I am not down with leaving too much earlier.....tell the guy in GJ to circumvent the airport and wait for us. At least he will get to sleep in an extra 4 hours! Alright, we are two weeks away!!!!
I dont want to post this, but........the weathing in the mountains has kind of sucked, even though its great down here. Do we need to have a contigency plan built in place just incase it decides to snow up at the tunnel and Vail pass? I mean, I think I would be alright, I have A/S tires as my spring/summer/fall tires but for those that have only summers, how do you feel?
The only other option that I could think of is north up through Wyoming I-80 to I-15 in SLC. That way adds 200 miles where as I-25 to I-40 adds ALOT more to it. So, just as a contingency, I thought I would throw it out there. Im hoping we are good, but this has seemed like a bad spring in the Mtns getting snow.
Lets just hope in two weeks its nice and clear but I think for those that cant make it with summer tires, something should be thought of. Or get some snow cables?
gladius
04-07-2011, 10:15 AM
I think we should have a contingency. I will be using summer tires and would not make it up a snowy pass on them. I will not put cables/chains on my tires.
Dackz
04-07-2011, 10:26 AM
Its about ~1000 Miles going south to Alberquerque and over on I-40.
Starting in Fort Collins and going north I-80 to SLC and down I-15 is ~900 miles.
Either add quite a bit. The roads are clear today on I-70 and it just snowed up there the other day, I was checking on http://www.cotrip.org/home.htm so if it were to snow the 18th-19th, we would be fine for the 21st. 20th might be sketch. There really isnt another option but the two listed. So, Im all for idea;s, even leaving Wednesday night and staying in Glenwood or something at some cheap joint if we have to beat a storm thursday morning.
Lets just HOPE the weather is good. Ive not been up in the mountains ever during the winter (just once and then last year for mfest, Im not a ski guy so I avoid the mtns) so I dont have experience with how the roads can be. Last year was completely clear the whole time and there wasnt even much snow at the passes.

Ah its no biggie. When your semi-retired (read: unemployed) you have extra time on your hands.
I think we will be okay weather wise. I would say at worst the roads will be wet? Ive been looking at the temps and its in the 40's-50's up there so the roads should be warm enough to repel anything by then I would think.
Im hoping for sunny and nice all the way.

Im still thinking the forecast will change. The thing is, if we can hit it and its only wet, then we are fine. Id really hate to drive 300+ miles around and countless hours extra just for 2 passes. I mean if its bad bad, then yea, I understand.
We will just have to wait till Tuesday/Wednesday to see what to do. We dont have another choice of route, 70 or head south. If we went south, I would almost rather leave on Wednesday evening and stay in like Sante Fe or so and then see if the Texas guys want to wait up for us on Thursday morning. Going around the south like that will really add time to the trek.

I'm gonna let you guys fight this one out however It's pretty simple guys, if the weather sucks then we go the alternate route. Let's see where we are at next week.
I can guarantee you that I don't watt to drive on packed snow because my NT05's are significantly worse than any of your tires. Things can change and I think the worry about the weather is a bit premature at this point.

We will just have to keep an eye on this site and the cams and see how the weather is. IF this was next week...we would be going south. Lets hope worst case scenario next week for weather is showers....if its just showers it will be wet only and we will be fine.

Yeah...that webcam on I-70/Silverplume is full on snowing right now. South route will suck but if it's the only option, it's the only option. Let's see next Tues/Weds.

I just checked the conditions and cams just now. Looks mainly just wet along MOST locations, cant really see Vail so much but it even looks just slow and wet, maybe some slush. Tunnel is pretty clear/slush in a couple lanes.
Based on the fact the mtn's got quite a bit of snow, and its mainly just wet....we will be fine.

Hey everyone, make sure to bring a print out of your confirmation for Mfest. Your paypal receipt may not be needed however it is helpful and MAY be needed. So print it out and bring it with you just incase.
Thanks to Brian for the heads up on that one.

If anyone wants to come over wednesday we can put up probably 6 people? Maybe more if you want to rough it??? Let me know, Jim

Are you guys just checking local weather, or weather over Vail pass? Because the forecast I looked up has it snowing every day next week. Aside from snow, I am a little concerned about the amount of salt/sand on the road as well. I guess I can wrap the hell out of my front end...hopefully it is just wet. Here is the forecast I was looking at:http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USCO0388
It might come down to a game time decision on what route to take.

Yup, Ive been checking that an Copper Mtn. The thing is, thats most likely a 40% chance of showers. After seeing how much snow they got the other day and good the roads were, its going to take quite a storm to derail us.
Gravel and sand, yea, that will be present. You'll see sand on those roads by nature, I know last year I remember getting some sand from time to time from the car in front of me. Summer tires pick it up and sling it pretty good.
You can always put blue painters tape all over the front end. You wont be the first or only person going to Mfest that way.
I wouldnt worry too much about the weather. If anything, if we need to wait in Idaho Springs/Georgetown for a little while for the roads to melt/warm up, shouldnt be a big deal.
Im more worried about getting my car dirty, period. Its so damn clean and shiny and glistening right now. But hey, I bought the car to drive it, not to keep it parked all the time :D Hence, why I love Mfest!

Jim, should we plan on meeting at the same Shell station on Horizon drive again? Is there a better place we should meet at? We have a lot more cars this year, is there one down the street in either direction that may work better then another? Is there one that is considerably cheaper then another? Id also like to get some food as I am sure everyone else will since there isnt anything for 200 miles. Wendy's works again :)
As for the weather, the 30-40% chance just means showers, scattered and such. That also means 60-70% of the time these same atmospheric conditions are present, nothing happens :) So as long as its not a full fledged storm like this past week, wet will be the worst thing (and maybe some sand). So we will be fine.
Is it Thursday yet???
Thursday forecast for Vail as it looks today is rain and snow in the low 40s, not happy conditions for summer tires. I am seriously considering going through 4 corners and the res, which has a happier forecast. While it adds a few hours, it's still faster than going all the way down through Albuquerque.

The Shell station has the most room for cars.. There is a conoco and another station 2 blocks down (to the left after exit) but they are extremely limited on space. There is wendys accross from shell, so should be good option...

Just remember, 30-40% chance of showers means 60-70% chance of nothing. Low 40's and wet road is fine in summer tires. I really think everyone is over reacting to how bad summer tires. I bought my car in Portland Ore, drove it home and hit snow on I-84 south of Boise. Sure I wasnt blazing a trail but even in the wet roads it was fine. And temps were in the 20's at that time. They were RFT and bald at the time pretty much too ((inner portion of tire had threads showing at 15k) (13k on them) ) and I replaced them 2 months later after I took my snow tires off after the season.
Unless its snowpacked I dont see a reason to not go. Even if we have to go 25-30mph for about the 5-8 miles on either side of the pass, thats better then adding hundreds of miles to the trip.
You are more then welcome to go that route however, I think the majority group will be going I-70. Unless its snowpacked...which it wont be. They got over a foot of snow the other night and I checked the cams on that site, the roads were slushy/wet by 9am the next morning. Just remember, they need I-70 as clear as possible as its a major trucking route. CDOT probably takes care of it better then any other road in the state.

Sounds good Jim, lets shoot for the Shell again then. Same spot towards the back after we fill up :) 3 days!! Cant wait!

Make sure to print your paypal receipts to bring to registration with you. While not required, they may be helpful incase something was lost in Mfest computer systems.
Weather should be good since they are getting the storm out of the way tonight/tomorrow. Wednesday looks good and Thursday some later afternoon storms, so we should be golden to make it on over the hills.
3 more days. Final prep time. The time has finally come!

Good call David, they lost my registration last year and I had to pull my receipt up on my phone. Thank the BMW gods for the iPhone, otherwise it would have been me waiting in that long ass line again while I went to find a laptop.

Based on the weather forecast and road condtions, a backup plan may be needed for some. I for one, will be going I-70 no matter what. I figure its not worth the extra time for a few miles of mtn passes. I also have all season tires making it that much easier for me. The Vail pass cams and eisenhower tunnel cams show that its already getting wet over the pass, and they got dumped on over night.
Having said that, Am snow is in the forecast now on Thursday (boy did that change overnight). If you would like to form a different idea and direction to go, then please by all means start a new thread and get that organized. I for one, am going I-70 as I know a few others are going to as well. Any other route you choose except NM requires either lots of 2 lane roads or CO mtn passes that do not see nearly as much traffic or are maintaned quite like I70, which IMO will be the most maintained in the state since its a major trucking route.
As a courtesy and because I have tires that can handle the conditions, I will leave someone else in charge (gathering everyone up and making sure everyone is there) at the meeting location and forge on up the hill alone and check the conditions if need be. You would all have to wait around sometime, 45 minutes to an hour, for me to get up to the tunnel, but I would be willing to do that since Im going that way anyways.
The only other thing is if someone has a 3g wireless card they could open up the laptop and check the cams as the sun comes up at 645 and see how it looks.
