Thumbs up New HPF Oil Catch Can "Kit" for E46 M3's

There is very little room in the E46 M3 engine compartment to fit an oil catch can and we've dialed in the perfect spot whether you have a supercharger, turbocharger or are normally aspirated. The HorsepowerFreaks oil catch tank "kit" is a great way to keep oil blow-by from lowering the octane rating of your fuel. The crank case pressure on boosted and even non-boosted motors will often exceed ambient air pressure outside the engine. This causes the oil vapors to leave the engine and enter the combustion chamber. These oil vapors can lower octane ratings by as much as 2 points. The plug-n-play oil catch tank by HorsepowerFreaks uses extremely large and expensive 12AN Earls fittings along with Earls Pro-Lite 350 High temp oil resitant hoses to allow this pressure to quickly and easily flow out of the engine without restriction. The oil vapor hits the densely packed coil area inside the catch tank where the oil is separated from the air allowing the air to be burned safely by the engine and allowing the oil to accumulate so that it can be easily re-used. This oil catch tank is located in a safe place away from heat using the mounting bracket provided. The main oil catch tank simply twists off by hand just like an oil filter and allows you to safely pour the oil back into the engine.

Here's a link to the kit on our site... http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/part...anks/E46/16619

HPF Oil Catch Tank "Bolt-On Kit" $495

We will definitely make a kit for the 135/335i. Give us a few more months.

You may feel a small power gain with supercharged M3's as their DME's can take advantage of the higher octane intake charge. With our turbo kits, you will most likely not see any power gain because our timing maps are preset to 91 octane. It does give you added insurance however knowing you're intake charge is at a higher octane and also saves you from burning through factory oil which can simply be re-used.

We'll eventually have versions for all of the E46's.

fyi giving the community options. Southbay autohaus mounted it in my 540 engine bay. Works superb $170.
We contacted Elite Engineering to make some design changes to their existing oil catch can for us as we love their design. These changes allow us to utilize our much larger feed and return lines. They also allow us to mount the catch tank in a location that is very convenient for the BMW E46's as there is very minimal space in the engine area. The 12AN Earls fittings, hoses, brackets, anodizing and wrinkle black powder coating are what adds up in the price. For those DIYers that want to make a custom kit they could certainly shave off a few dollars, but to have a kit of this quality will cost even the DIYer quite a bit of money and time designing and implementing it themselves.

Chris.
