Shop recommendation & price estimate please

So, I just bought a serious lemon. Engine ran strong sounded good... had a misfire in cyl 1 and 2 after i got agressive with it on the first test drive. I figured no problem my other m3 had the same exact problem, replace the coilpacks and i'll be solid. So after my 10 mile celebratory drive, on the last 200 yards of it.. the last red light i was at before parking at home, i gunned it as I have done with my other m3 tons of times, and on the second shift, i hear the misfire and let off the gas. I pull into my street, and KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK, who's there? Karma. I think I spun a rod bearing.

Soo... I have a strong pretty stock 98 m3 engine. and a 99 m3 with the knock.

Please chime in on what you would do to get the 99m3 to be a DD.

Rebuild engine, reseal, etc.
Do a hack job myself and replace the bearings with engine still in car even though the crankshaft journals are probably destroyed and i'd need to replace connecting rods most likely..
Swap my 98 over to my 99.

Please post any info that you might have including reputable shops in the SoCal area (West Los Angeles if possible).

Spoke with a guy at Ronin Autowerks and depending on my research/finances I might just go there but would like any info anyone has to share.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: btw i did not drive with the misfiring going on. Turn the engine off for 30 seconds and restart and it doesn't misfire.

So I pulled the valve cover and found that the ****ing tensioner retainer pin was securely in place. What the hell! What kind of idiot leaves something like that in. Pathetic mechanic or terribly ignorant diy'er

pm'd mertm5. Hopefully I can get this figured out. Hopefully the problem is just with the top end/head and I can fix the entire problem by getting the top end redone. Ultimately if it is the head, the lucky shop who is willing to help me out and go that extra mile in the customer service department, will help me get a freshly rebuilt head with all new internals (guides, retainers, lifters, springs, valves, etc.) and grind out the intake to match an m50 intake manifold, port and polish, and possibly a set of cam's. I'm not that deep into the purchase so I'd be ok spending a few bills on it to just get it done. Mostly because now that I have a jag in my garage, I have no room to work on either of my m3's =(

Anyone know what it'd cost to get the entire top end rebuilt for an 99 e36 m3 3.2L?
All new valves, guides, retainers, bushings, springs, etc etc.?
