smg pump needed?

So i just got a 2002 bmw m3 ess supercharged with 114k. the other day it was making a noise that sounded like a squeaky belt but it was coming from the transmission. i turned off my car and tried to start it and it did not want to even crank. i found a way to at least get it to start to try and diagnose the issue. i put the car into gear and all it does is has a '0' no matter if i put it in reverse or in 1st gear..any ideas what this might be? i am thinking smg pump but im not sure and if it is smg pump will i need to have it programmed?

I just had my smg pump replaced. Cost me 3500 bucks!!! Coulda bought some rims. Try replacing the Salmon relay in the relay box under the hood (drivers side) I would say that's your cheapest route and first step to diagnose. Question. When you unlock your car do you hear the high pitched whining noise?

Totally agree.
Try the cheapest route first, the salmon relay.
If this doesn't work, check if your battery is bad.
Then move on to alternator, before you finally moved to the infamous SMG pump.

The high pitch sound when unlocking the car means SMG pump is charging.
Keep us posted with your progress.

I had to get mine replace as well. Try the relay. They tried 3 different relays, but the pump wouldnt hold pressure (cant comment on exact specs ATM). Good luck!

FYI, it is in fact under its own warranty as of now. Fails again and its a free change. Thats piece of mind you wont get from a used ebay part. Just keep that in mind

SMG problems can really get pricey but look on the bright side your shifting is alot better and u can enjoy the car more from this point on

I had an issue like that prior as well I though my smg pump would be bad. Indohan is right if you unlock the door and the smg is making pitch i think it's ok. Now i have to ask when you turn on the car and put it in drive or reverse does it go for little bit then shuts off? also see if your gear sensor is on. If it is then it's possibly the gear position sensor.
