No power to fuel pump...

so my car is still down

my car missed out on mfest... i cant let it miss out on bimmerfest too!

im not getting any power to the fuel pump.

my procedure:
i took out the rear seat and took out the fuel pump cover off on the passenger side of the car. now i got another fuel pump (of the same car 96 m3) and plugged both the fuel tank level sender and the main power harness, turned the key and nothing no sound coming out of the original fuel pump, or the new fuel pump...

so now i move on to the fuel pump fuse number 18... but the fuse is still good

any help from anyone that has experienced this before or anyone that can get a hold of the wiring diagram of the fuel pump wiring from the dme back to the pump would be greatly appreciated

tia guys

btw its a production 06/96 m3

if the car cranks over it may be the fuel pump relay.. thats in the engine bay where fuses are..
if it dosnt crank.. it will be ignition switch...
hope this help

the car is cranking

i actually just switched out the both relays, the main fuel pump relay and the main dme relay, from another bmw that was running, and i still have the same problem.

i then took out the dme relay and i plugged a 15amp fused jumper wire between sockets 30 and 87 and actually got the fuel pump to turn on, so now im thinking i might have a faulty dme because there is no power getting sent to the fuel pump relay.

correct me if im wrong but i believe it goes something like this...

DME--> DME relay--> Fuel pump relay--> Fuse #18--> Fuel pump-->

i just checked wiring diagram.. and yes ur right 100%.. last test i would do is check if you get power pin 8 on fuel pump relay.. if you have power there while cranking then .. the only thing left is a faulty dme.. from what your telling me..

thanks for all your help man, a friend of mine pretty much gave me a dme from a 03/98 328 is... i wonder if it would work with my m3 which is a 06/96, i checked realoem but its giving me 2 different part numbers eventhough they both say

SIEMENS
"5WK9"
"MS41.1"

i understand that the dme needs to be flashed by the dealer for the ewsII system to match the key so thats why im not even trying to plug it in and make it run...

but can we make it work

oh and another person told me it could be the crankshaft positioning sensor that is not sending pulsing to the dme to send power to the pump relay to make it work... what do you think about that?

imma check power on pin number 8 like you said first.
but, should i change out the CPS before trying to replacing the dme?

Is your Check Engine Light on? I had a similar problem coming home from Mfest. As for the CPS, when we were trying to diagnose what my fuel issue was, the tech helping me unplugged the CPS as a way to check that off the list so I don't think that would be the case here either. Maybe try reset your DME with a GT1 instead of changing it out with different one. I'm 99% sure the DME from the 03/98 328 is OBD1 and you def. need an OBDII dme.

That DME is definetly an OBD II... Any car from 96 and up is OBD II. 95 was the last year with OBD I

^This. Thanks for clearing it up. I for some reason read it as 93 328.

^ no problem.. As for his fuel pump issue I'm pretty sure it's the dme.. We had a similar issue with a 95 m3 but that wasn't the whole dme for some some reason only the chip went out! So we just put a performance chip in and the car was on the road..Bently manual should be your best friend right now..

take out your dme and check to see if it got wet,the e36 chasi is known to plug up the water drains and fill up the dme with water.
