MFest VI Track Day Review

After resting a bit yesterday, finally have a chance to sum up my experience with the MFest track event.

As a preface, I've done the track day portion of MFest for the past three years now, but ran in the Speedventures groups. I had the black S2000 and instructed for a few folks.

Just some overall pros / cons.
Pros:
- Mfest and Speedventures staff were far more organized this year than previous years.
- Track etiquette, overall, was very good. Didn't see too many people holding up others. I ran in several groups, helping out students... so it was nice to see a lot of people's heads on a swivel.
- No engine failures that I know of... always a plus!
- No incidents, on/off track!
- The go-go dancers. EVERY track day should have go-go dancers!
- Seemed like a lot of people were having a good time, even if the temp was kicking much ass.

Cons:
- The Corvette and the white Caddy station wagon that decided to do a burnout/donuts in the back of the paddock... What's funny is, the Caddy had, previously in the day, tossed his car out into the desert at the end of turn 1. Least he took it on track, unlike the C6.
- the heat. Temp rose 10 degrees between thursday and Sunday!

However, the most memorable thing was, the yellow GT3. That guy was absolutely hilarious! I don't think he made it one session without finding his car somewhere in the desert! One session, he launched from the pit, made the right turn to get on track, and spun it off course. He never even made it on track and was already collecting rocks! The driver also managed to launch it into the air at the end of one of the turns before the straight. I've never seen so much determination and it was absolutely brilliant! Most drivers toss their car off track and it humbles them a bit...not the Porsche owner, he kept on going! I admire that level of passion and dedication to doing what we love, driving the piss out of our cars!

Also, to the Z3 coupe owner with the wing... you sir have an uncanny level of car control! well done!

Good fun Mfest!

you're probably talking about Don... he's a racecar driver that was asked to drive the Porsche at the track. he was determined to try and beat the time attack lap record lol

May not be the same person...

Though, the fastest time of the day I saw was a 1:57 out of one of the sponsor cars. I believe RTA's fastest recorded time was 1:43 with the +800hp NSX and a blistering amount of aero.

Everything was well organized. I enjoyed it. It was my first Mfest and i loved it.

Since i attend a lot of A/X and D/E's I was really hoping for ride a longs.

None of the tuners wanted to give anyone rides. Unless of course they were females.

Thanks a lot. Says a lot about you guys.

I had a helmet in my hands and it looked like i was a little boy asking for money, running from a car to a car. Was embarrassing.

What's up with that? I'm the one who will purchase products from them, and not those girls.

Sorry for rant.

haha, whoever it was, they certainly weren't a great driver, but they were easily having the most fun!

Did your friend have the Turbo or the GT3? don't want the wrong person getting pegged as the offroader Porsche

That sucks... I know Hard Driving was giving rides, but not sure who else was.

Turbo. He had the front end and some sides taped up in blue. I believe the one that went off was untaped and had MFEST numbers on the doors

My friends failed to show up and after running the first session solo which was
no fun i needed a body to fill the pass seat.. i had an extra helmet and just before
the second session i found a guy walking past mypit and he got a 20min ride ontrack.
Third and fourth sessions same story only different person. You should have come down by the cadillacs..

Awe man!

I was giving people rides in the LSB Drag car on Friday and Saturday night. Not as fun as the track but still a pretty fun experience for them I'm sure.
