Gettin ready for SoCalEuro! e30 content

Some pics of the swirling/scratching. The sun came out for a few minutes so I tried to grab a few pictures with what little light I had

Nasty...... I guess the rear deck lid doesn't have clear....

A half and half picture of only the first step of polishing. You can see the difference!

My detailing companion. Smokey. He's a 4.5mo old Australian shepherd. One of the best dogs we've had.

Some reflection pictures after the first step of polishing

Way to eat up my pads e30.... thanks....

First step polishing supplies

All taped up!

2nd step polishing supplies

Hood shocks were blown, so I had to search for something to hold the hood up with while I detailed. My mom's garden ornament for winter worked just perfectly :]

Some new pads I tried for today. SM Arnold isn't bad. They are a local brand for Southern California and they sell to local retailers in the area. Similar to Coats Products. This white pad is very consistent

Before

After... another pad lost after one job

Dark out. Yet another detail going on well into the night

All the tape off the car. Lots o' scotch tape

Reflection shots

LSP: MG #20 Sealant. I like this one a lot. I'm going to give #21 a try next time though.

APC for the interior

Cleaning the vents

Stoner's Glass Cleaner. I love this stuff!

Hyper Dressing for moldings and trim. 2:1 dillution for a glossy shine that Jo's GF asked for.

Had to take care of the shedding from my wool pad that got onto the ragtop. These lint rollers work well for clothes, considering I live in a pet fileld home. I gave it a try on the ragtop, worked just as well! I recommend keeping one or two of these in your detailing arsenal.

303 Aerospace protectant for protection on the ragtop

Afters: I'm really tired from a long day of detailing, so no time to edit, I'll jsut post a few that looked good. I'll edit them and post in the forums in a little bit. These shots were with the e30, my black e36, and Jo's white e39 all vinyled out!

Thanks for ruining all my pads Jo :]

Sorry about the lack of after pictures that show the swirls removed. I will head up to visit the e30 sometime early this week to take pics in the daytime. Stay tuned for some more after pics!!

Best,
Jake

Hi,

New member here just wanted to share my experience with you. I have a 91 E30 cabrio that I did the same thing as you did a few years ago. The car looked like it just came out of the essembly line but within 3-4 months, I figured out that the car never had a clear coat so the shine started to fade away and now looks like the "before" pictures. Here are 2 links to what it looked like that day.

I hope you weren't too heavy handed on your finish but all those red pads indicate that you might have removed way too much

enjoy it while it lasts

I've had meh luck with Zaino..The products the the OP used (105/205) are a very good combination to perfect. I'm pretty sure Zaino has fillers as opposed to 105/205 without; or marginal vs the Zaino.

Also base+ clear mixed paints are a lot easier to correct but also it sees the most weathering pretty fast.
Also with oily waxes you can get a red car to look good with ease..(if you want to make it look good for short term) just glaze and wax it

I'll be sure to keep a close eye on her. I detailed a few single stage paints in the past and as long as we made sure a layer of protection was present, it did just fine! I'll email Jo and I'll try and bring a PDG to the next meet I see him at. Just to make sure we are still in the clear (no pun); I don't want that shine to fade!
