Need help

Ok so, i was on my way home from work when i hear a loud THUD sound from the drivers side door. I thought someone threw something at my car... i pull over and see nothing. A couple days later i hear it again, this time while driving on the freeway, now I'm confused and flipping out. A few minutes later i hear poping and loud ass static coming from the driver's side "Harman Kardon" Speaker.

My radio was off. Everything in my car in completely STOCK (except Angel Eyes). The static sound comes and goes randomly. I've tried to see what triggers it... My thoughts are maybe when i use the phone feature through my Iphone using Bluetooth. But thats not consistent either.

I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation before taking my car to the stealership .

Thanks

Perhaps the rain has something to do with the wiring in your door causing a short? Take a multimeter to your electrical system see if there are any drains. Wait a few more days for any water to evaporate?

That could be it, but since the OP said he was getting static, it could also be that specific speaker's magnets going bad already.

Follow my logic here to help find the problem:
1) speakers do not produce sound on their own.
2) all your speakers are driven off the amp in the left rear of trunk.
3) garbage in garbage out, if your head unit sends static to the amp, the amp will reproduce that static.
4) It is possible for a blown speaker ( shorted voice coil ) on one channel of the amp to cause problems with other/ all channels of the amp.

Ok, so far we have narrowed it down to either the speakers, amp, or head unit. I know that does not help, but here are the next steps I would take.

1) start at the amp in the trunk, unplug it and check each speaker outputs twisted pair of wires for continuity with a DMM ( Keep in mind that the twisted pairs with brown/orange stripe are inputs ). It is ok if a speaker does not show continuity since the tweeters might have capacitors on them. But you should not read less than 3 ohms per channel, and should not read continuity to ground on any speaker wire. Also make sure the blue or yellow wire of the input wires pairs are not shorting to ground, they carry the audio signal.
2) look at the amp plug and amp itself for obvious water damage or corrosion.
3) If all is well then move on to the stereo ( stereo located in dash for non nav, and in trunk for nav vehicles). You can purchase a stereo harness male and female from metra or scoshe that could be used to switch left and right side speakers on the radio output that is the amp input. That way if the problem moves to the right side you know the radio is the issue. If the problem stays on the left side the amp is the issue.

I hope this is info not too late, and that it helps you out.
