This question, probably, is best to be answered by LaidBack.
He drives both..
If you ask me, go for the one you like better.
I like E60 more than E39.
You gotta drive what you love.

Good luck in the hunt for your M5.

that's a really low mileage for a 2003 model, if money is out of the question then go for the e60 M5. Nothing can beat the exhaust note on a V10 e60 M5.

I would say E60. with light modification it can be made to be gorgeous as well as fast. the e39 takes a little more effort

Laidback is on a distinguished road
It all depends on which type of body style you like best...two different characteristics and i like them both

2. E39 M5 parts are very comparable to the E60 M5 meaning their still pricey even if the E39 is years older...

3. Gas mileage is were it varies E39 takes up less gas than the E60 M5

4. E60 M5 is more bigger and roomier

5. Mods? both have alot of mods available and Supercharger is the only one ive known so far that has been successful on both.

6. IIrc from my conversation with Chris@Horspowerfreaks, won't be making a turbo kit for the E39 M5.

7. Power E60 M5 but with the S/C on the E39 M5 he'll give the younger brother a run for his money...

8. Maintenance mostly the same both eat oil every few thousand miles but OEM parts on the E60 M5 are really pricey (were talking thousands).

a little pound for pound comparo between the two (STOCK)

I have more info but feel free to ask away
